Mon, Nov 29 - The Hooligans collected a forfeit victory in their final regular season game as the Phlaming Belly Buttons only fielded two players on the day, so by default a win by a score of 14-0 is awarded. The win brings the Hooligans' record to 6-4 and secures at least the #3 seed in the playoffs. The standings are far from settled and will depend on the results of the final two games, but regardless of seed and opponent the Hooligans will play on Thursday at 5:00 in the playoffs. ROLL HOOLIGANS!

Going into the Thanksgiving break, the Hooligans are currently #3 in the standings. There are a number of possible scenarios for the final standings, and a #2 seed is still not out of the question. The Hooligans will return to action on Monday the 29th at 5pm vs the Phlaming Belly Buttons.
Wed, Nov. 17 - The Hooligans lost a heartbreaker against a much improved Ragin' Cajun Hot Stixxx team to round out their 4-game stand, falling by a score of 29-23. The Hot Stixxx began the game on offense and quickly moved down the field, scoring a TD and 2pt conversion to go up 8-0. The Hooligans had an answer as they scored on their next offensive series and trailed 8-6. The Hot Stixxx again drove down the field led by experienced new signee Erik Schultz at the QB position, and they jumped out to a 16-6 lead after another score. The Hooligans kept the game close, however, as Josh Ulm hauled in a TD before the half ended to close the lead to 16-13.
In the second half, the Hot Stixxx struck yet again to stretch the lead to 22-13. With time ticking away in the second half the Hooligans needed to close the gap, and Michelle Baumgardner responded in a big way by catching her 2nd TD of the year to knot the game at 22-22. On the 1-pt conversion try the pass from Ryan Noack was tipped, almost intercepted, and finally caught by Zach Johnston to give the Hooligans a huge 23-22 lead with under 2 minutes to go. The Hot Stixxx took the ball with 1:47 to go in the game and moved methodically down the field. Some pressure by Zach Johnston on Erik Schultz forced him to get rid of the ball quickly, but with 19 seconds to go the Hot Stixxx had a 4th-and-goal near the endzone and called a timeout. Johnston blitzed again but Schultz found Jesse Caddell for the clutch TD reception. With 15 seconds to go the Hooligans tried for a deep pass and Erik Schultz was there for the interception to seal the victory. Ryan Noack and Zach Johnston split reps at QB for the game. Thuy Phan caught a 1-pt conversion on the Josh Ulm touchdown. Captain Mike Russell drew a flag-guarding penalty on Erik Schultz to prevent a touchdown. Zach Milner continued to provide a speedy threat and forced the Hot Stixxx to respect the run-fake option. Steve Lestock played solid defense for the Hooligans. Ali Diallo had several receptions on the day. The loss drops the team to 5-4 on the season. The standings are anything but settled as a number of teams are in a battle for the 2nd-place spot, and Hooligans fans may find themselves having to cheer for rival Pebble Creek Punishers to help them improve their positioning. The Hooligans will now have a long layoff over Thanksgiving break and will return to action on Mon, Nov. 29th against the Phlaming Belly Buttons at 5pm. ROLL HOOLIGANS! Tue, Nov. 16 - The Pigskin Hooligans have often received criticism this season for winning games with a 7-on-5 advantage over the other team. They silenced those critics today, however, with a 23-19 victory over the Gamecocks which was 7-on-7 for the entire contest. The Hooligans started the game on offense, and new signee Jeni Bollenbacher made an immediate impact with a TD catch for 9 points. After the failed conversion try the Gamecocks marched quickly down the field and Zach Paustian ran in for the score to make it a 9-6 game. After playing solid defense and forcing a punt on the next possession the Gamecocks again moved the ball down the field; this time Justin Litzner caught a TD to give them a 12-9 lead. The Hooligans had an answer, however, as the dependable Josh Ulm caught a TD pass to give the team a 16-12 lead at the half.
Due to the rainy weather and darkness the teams elected to skip halftime. The Gamecocks started on offense and looked to be headed to the endzone yet again. However, Zach Milner intercepted a pass in the endzone and nearly returned it the length of the field to give the Hooligans momentum and good field position. The Hooligans made the Gamecocks pay as Zach Johnston scrambled from the QB position and ran into the endzone to push the lead to 23-12. The Gamecocks would score once more on the day but the Hooligans were able to run out the clock on their next offensive series and came away with a big victory. Jeni Bollenbacher added a 1-pt conversion to go with her TD on the day. Captain Mike Russell played several offensive series and served primarily in a coaching capacity. Max Joseph and Ryan Noack had several key receptions and aided the Hooligans on defense. Thuy Phan continued to show a knack for flag-grabbing with several on the day. The Hooligans improve to 5-3 on the season and currently hold the #2 spot outright. They will finish their grueling stretch of 4 games in a row tomorrow (Wednesday) at 4pm against Jesse Caddell's Ragin' Cajun Hot Stixxx. The last time the two teams met, the Hooligans came away with a 43-18 victory. ROLL HOOLIGANS! Michelle Baumgardner may be back in the Hooligans' lineup later this week, but has been temporarily subbed out due to some prior commitments. The Hooligans would like to thank her for her past (and likely future) service, and are happy to announce a new signing:
Jeni Bollenbacher, junior: The Hooligans continue to search for subs in the absence of Sarah Mowery, and Jeni will be a solid addition to the Pigskin Hooligans. She has been a dominant player for the Concordia softball team the past two years as a pitcher/shortstop, and she ran cross country this year as well for the Cardinals. Jeni will bring focus and athleticism to the Hooligans, and the organization is proud to have her on board! Mon, Nov. 15 - The Pigskin Hooligans lost a close one in the first overtime game in franchise history, falling by a score of 30-27. Both teams were short-manned to start the game, and to conserve daylight decided to play 4-on-4 to begin on time. Adam Rutz caught a TD pass to open the scoring and the Ninety-Fives led 8-0 after the 2pt score. The Hooligans responded, however, as Josh Ulm scored his first of 2 TDs on the day and the score stood at 8-6. The manpower advantage then shifted to the Hooligans as several late arrivals made it 7-on-5 on their favor. The dangerous Ben Gau hauled in a deep TD pass to make it a 15-6 game, but the Hooligans again had an answer has Zach Milner broke a huge run with his speed to make the score 15-12. Adam Rutz struck again for his 2nd TD of the day to make the score 21-12, but Zach Milner made another huge play by intercepting the Ninety-Fives' conversion attempt and returning it all the way for 2pts. The points proved critical as Josh Ulm caught another TD pass to knot the score at 21-21, and after a defensive battle the game headed to overtime.
Controversy ensued to start the overtime session. Upon winning the coin flip, Captain Russell elected to play defense first. The officials at first believed that the overtime format was sudden death, but upon further review of the rules it was recognized that a college-style overtime is called for. The Ninety-Fives still made the most of their opening possession on offense, though, as Rachael Quinlan barely slid one foot in bounds for a huge 9-pt score to open up a 30-21 lead. After preventing the conversion, the Hooligans needed either a 9-pt girl TD or a 6-pt male TD plus a 3-pt conversion. Max Joseph caught a short dumpoff and tried to stay out of the endzone, but due to poor visibility accidentally went in for the score. The Hooligans were forced to try for 3 to tie the game, but after a number of crazy laterals Paul Neumeyer came up with the clutch flag grab to stop Joseph from reaching the endzone and the game ended. Ryan Noack subbed in at QB in Zach Johnston's absence today and filled in nicely. Captain Mike Russell had one reception which almost went for a TD as well as a flag grab. Thuy Phan had several key flag grabs in the game, and Steve Lestock had a few receptions on the day. Ali Diallo had a few receptions and near TDs, and also was solid grabbing flags. As noted before, Josh Ulm paced the Hooligans with 2 touchdowns on the day as well as hauling in several other key receptions. The Hooligans drop to 4-3 on the season and will look to bounce back tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5pm in a rematch versus the Gamecocks. Last time these two teams met they played a wild offensive shootout and the Gamecocks came away with the 50-41 victory. ROLL HOOLIGANS! Sun, Nov 14 - The Pigskin Hooligans sent a message to the rest of the league Sunday that they are nearing their top form from last year. With a defeat of the previously undefeated Punishers by a score of 61-46, the Hooligans have won 3 in a row and hold a 4-2 record. The Punishers were without a girl and forced to play 5-vs-7, but they had some of their most athletic players present. The Hooligans started the game on offense and were driving down the field when Jim Abrams forced a Thuy Phan fumble and returned it for a big gain. Martell Buchanan ran in a quick TD to put the Punishers up 6-0, but the Hooligans quickly answered with a TD strike to Ryan Noack. The teams traded scores and Ryan Noack caught another TD pass to put the Hooligans up 14-12. On the Hooligans' next possession, Zach Johnston broke a big gain when blitzed and appeared headed to the endzone. However, he unselfishly lateraled off to Thuy Phan after the Punishers' defense gave up on the play so the Hooligans could get a 9-pt girl TD instead; the score was her 5th TD of the year. Those extra 3 pts played a role in the game later, and at halftime the Hooligans' lead stood at 29-20.
The game continued to be a wild shootout in the second half. As stated before, although undermanned the Punishers had a dangerous 5 players in the game and were able to break big gains on the Hooligans' defense. On offense, though, the 2-player advantage certainly made a difference as the Hooligans almost always had an open receiver. Late in the game, the Hooligans held a 49-40 lead when the Punishers scored to make it 49-46. The extra 3 points from Thuy Phan's earlier TD played a role as the Punishers were now forced to try the 3pt conversion from midfield; they were unsuccessful. Ali Diallo scored his 2nd TD of the day on the next series and added an interception return for a TD afterwards as the Hooligans cruised to the 61-46 victory. New signee Ali Diallo paced the Hooligans with 3 TDs on the day, making an immediate impact. Max Joseph had several interceptions on the day and played solid defense. Captain Mike Russell mainly served as a decoy receiver but did have a catch for a 1-pt conversion. Josh Ulm had several key receptions to keep drives alive and gain yardage. Zach Johnston had an excellent passing day throwing for 6 TDs. For the Punishers, Jordan Marken and Martell Buchanan had several scores on the day. The Hooligans will play the 2nd of 4 games in a row tomorrow (Monday) at 5pm in a rematch with Bri Sonnenberg's Ninety-Fives. They will then play Tuesday at 5pm versus the Gamecocks and Wednesday at 4pm versus the Ragin' Cajun Hot Stixxx. ROLL HOOLIGANS! Due to a busy schedule, Billy Kohls has determined that he does not have the time to play flag football this year. The Hooligans organization would like to thank Billy for his interest and also his services in last year's run to the championship game. With that, the Hooligans are pleased to announce a new signing:
Ali Diallo, senior - Ali hails from Niamey, Niger, and will provide an international flavor to the Hooligans. He was a fixture on the Cardinals' soccer roster for his entire 4-year career at Concordia and will now take his talents to the flag football field. Ali brings a great deal of speed and athleticism and should be a solid addition to the Hooligans roster. Due to some scheduling conflicts with wind ensemble and band tour, Sarah Mowery has had to take a temporary leave of absence from the Hooligans. The organization would like to thank her for her hard work so far, and she should be back later in the season. With that, the Hooligans are happy to announce a new, and particularly "retro", signing:
Michelle Baumgardner, part-time security worker: Michelle is the ultimate legend in Pigskin Hooligans history as she was the founder of the team back in 2006. Captain Mike Russell happened to bump into her around campus, and while updating her on the team's performance discovered she works part-time for security. This qualifies her as faculty, and hence makes her eligible to play intramurals at Concordia! Michelle will help to sub in for the Hooligans and brings athletic experience having played for Concordia's soccer team as well as continuing to play in indoor soccer tournaments. A quote on signing may follow shortly! Wed, Nov. 10 - The Hooligans came away with a close victory on Wednesday in front of a raucous crowd of 4 people as they defeated the Ninety-Fives to improve to a 3-2 record on the season. The Ninety-Fives had to start out playing 5-vs-7 in the beginning of the game as they were without a girl and the Hooligans took advantage, moving down the field and scoring a TD from Steve Lestock. After a 1pt conversion the score stood at 7-0, but the short-manned Ninety-Fives quickly got on the board after Paul Neumeyer hauled in a TD pass to bring the score to 7-6. Ryan Noack caught a TD to build the lead to 14-6, but the Ninety-Fives answered again; after the failed 2-pt conversion the score was 14-12. Rachael Quinlan then arrived on the scene which allowed the Ninety-Fives to play 7-vs-7, and the game got much more interesting. The Ninety-Fives would score again after stopping the Hooligans on 4th down to take an 18-14 lead, but Zach Johnston ran in for a score from the QB position on the next possession and the Hooligans recorded a 2pt conversion to lead 22-18 at the half.
The Joseph brothers arrived in the second half and a defensive battle ensued. The Ninety-Fives were able to take the lead on a deep TD strike to Ben Gau to go up 25-22 with about 5-6 minutes left. The Hooligans had an answer, however, as Michelle Baumgardner caught a short pass in the endzone for her first TD of the year and after the 1pt conversion the Hooligans regained the lead by a score of 32-25. The Hooligans took over on downs and seemed to be on the move to the endzone for a game-clinching score, but controversy struck. An inadvertent whistle wiped out a clear TD run by Max Joseph, drawing the ire of the Hooligans' fans. They would fail to score on the series, and with just under 2 minutes left the Ninety-Fives had the chance to tie or take the lead. A 15-yd swearing penalty on the Hooligans would allow the Ninety-Fives 4 downs from mid-field to get in the endzone, but they were unsuccessful and the Hooligans took over with 9 seconds to go. Josh Ulm caught a short dump-off and took it to the endzone to seal the victory in the closing seconds, 38-25. Bernard Joseph made his Hooligans debut and had a key pass breakup to prevent the Ninety-Fives from scoring at the end of the game. Thuy Phan caught a 1pt conversion and also had several key flag grabs. Captain Mike Russell mainly served in a coaching capacity but did have a reception for a short gain. Zach Milner provided a speedy target as usual. For the Ninety-Fives, Ben Gau recorded several TDs on the day and caused the Hooligans defense fits with his spin moves and speed. The Hooligans would like to thank Kaiti Fracalossi, Lindsey Bluhm, Karen Greficz, and Mary Kreutzkamp for braving the cold and cheering on the team today. The Hooligans' next game will be a rivalry game, a rematch with the Pebble Creek Punishers on Sunday at 4pm. The Punishers stand at 6-0 on the season as of the writing of this article. ROLL HOOLIGANS! Tue, Nov 9 - The Pigskin Hooligans returned to their winning ways today with a solid 43-18 victory over the Ragin' Cajun Hot Stixxx to even their record at 2-2. The Hooligans started with a short field after Josh Ulm picked off a pass for his third interception on the year. Thuy Phan made the Hot Stixx pay as she scored her 4th TD of the year to get the Hooligans on the board; after a 1-pt conversion the score stood at 10-0. The Hot Stixx quickly answered, with Jesse Caddell bursting past the defense for a deep TD reception to bring the score to 10-6. The Hooligans played solid defense throughout the rest of the first half, and they held a 24-6 lead at halftime. The Hot Stixx had to drop down to 5-vs-7 on the field in the second half with the departure of Lauren Harris, their only girl, and the Hooligans were able to build on their lead. The Hot Stixx did come up with 2 more scores on the day, including Jesse Caddell using his size to win a jump-ball battle with Zach Johnston late in the game, but the Hooligans consistently had an answer and were able to come away with the 43-18 win.
Max Joseph made a solid impact in the game, regarding 3 TDs on the day including one that almost stretched the entire length of the field. New signee Ryan Noack was a solid contributor on both sides of the football, and he recorded his first passing TD of the year on a strike to Zach Johnston. Captain Mike Russell turned a short reception into a big gain that nearly went for a TD, and he also recorded a flag grab. Zach Milner continued to provide dangerous speed, and Zach Johnston had several solid runs for big gains from the QB position. The Hooligans will play the second of back-to-back games this Wednesday against the Ninety-Fives at 5pm. Come out and cheer the Hooligans! Due to availability issues, Dan Maske has had to withdraw from the Pigskin Hooligans for now, though he may be subbed back in for some Sunday games. The Hooligans would like to thank Dan for his interest and potential services later, and are happy to announce a new, and yet an old, signing:
Ryan Noack, junior - Ryan was on the Hooligan team that went to the championship game last season. He originally thought that he would be unavailable this year due to the new baseball practice regimen, but discovered that he actually can make many of the games. Hailing from the Great White North of Canada, Ryan will provide a tall target on offense just as he did last year and should contribute some solid defense for the Hooligans as well. Ryan had this to say about signing: "I am proud to be joining a team with such a historic background! Coach Russell is a very influential man, who has this team going in the right direction, and I'm honored to be a part of it! Go HOOLIGANS!" Remember, the Hooligans play tomorrow (Tuesday) at 4:00 vs the Rajun Cajun Hot Stixx and Wednesday at 5:00 vs the Ninety-Fives. ROLL HOOLIGANS Sun, Nov. 7 - The Hooligans fell in a wild one on Sunday in an offensive showdown to the Gamecocks. Availability issues yet again plagued the Hooligans, though they had enough to play 7-vs-7. The Hooligans moved methodically down the field on their opening drive, and QB Zach Johnston took advantage of the ability to run when blitzed to scamper in for the opening TD. However, the Gamecocks quickly moved the ball down the field to even the score, and a TD catch by Ashley Hart on their next series gave the Gamecocks a 9-pt girl TD and a 16-7 lead. After another Gamecocks score the Hooligans executed an impressive 2-minute offense, getting out of bounds to stop the clock when necessary and finishing with a TD strike to Steve Lestock. But with 23 seconds to go in the half, one deep pass gave the Gamecocks another TD before the half ended.
Thuy Phan continued her breakout season for the Hooligans by recording 2 TDs on the day, an 18-point contribution. Steve Lestock also contributed several touchdowns on the day as well. The speedy duo of Zach Johnston and Zach Milner sprang big gains throughout the day, and the run/pass option caused some confusion for the Gamecocks defense. Sarah Mowery and Josh Ulm had a couple key catches, and captain Mike Russell had one reception and a flag grab on the day. The Hooligans' offense kept the game within reach until the very end, but defensive breakdowns allowed the Gamecocks to continue to move down the field and maintain their lead. Zach Johnston nearly picked off an ill-advised Gamecocks pass near the end of the game that could have given the Hooligans one more shot to tie the game, but the pass fell incomplete. The loss brings the team to 1-2 on the game, but they still showed plenty of potential. The Hooligans' next game will be Tuesday at 4pm vs Jesse Caddell's Rajun Cajun Hot Stixxx, and they will also play on Wednesday at 5pm against Bri Sonnenberg's Ninety-Fives. Come out and cheer on the Hooligans! Wed, Nov. 3 - The Hooligans returned to their winning ways today with a victory over the Phlaming Belly Buttons by a score of 43-8. The Belly Buttons only fielded a team of 4 players for the game, so the Hooligans took the sportsmanlike route and agreed to play 6-on-4. Zach Johnston got things started for the Hooligans with a touchdown scamper, and the Hooligans would put up several more scores to stretch the lead to 26-0 by halftime. Captain Mike Russell finally scored that elusive first career touchdown to give the Hooligans the 26-0 lead, as he ran a short out-route and caught the ball on the left side of the endzone. Thuy Phan also scored her first career TD in the second half to stretch the lead to 35-0. Thuy had an interception as well which she nearly took all the way to the opposing endzone; a TD-saving holding penalty by Orin Koester prevented the score.
Zach Johnston, Zach Milner, Max Joseph, Josh Ulm, and Steve Lestock were all active for the Hooligans with either interceptions or touchdowns. The Hooligan defense held solidly throughout the game, although the Belly Buttons did get a late TD reception from Orin Koester to get on the board and added a 2-pt conversion. There was a crowd of 3-4 people throughout the game to watch the Hooligans including Concordia business faculty Prof. Weyand, whom Mike/Thuy convinced to come watch the first half. The Hooligans are now off until Sunday when they will take on the Gamecocks at 5pm. Led by Thomas Sperry, the Gamecocks are comprised primarily of baseball players. They also have Danielle Guss/Ashley Hart from Concordia's volleyball team. Come on out and cheer on the Hooligans! Box score Half 1 2 Hooligans 26 17 Belly Buttons 0 8 Tues, Nov. 2 - The Hooligans opened their season to much anticipation. The game started well, but the Punishers were too much in the end as an under-manned Hooligans team lost 46-16. The Hooligans jumped out to an early lead as Max Joseph pulled in a touchdown pass from Zach Johnston, putting the lead at 7-0 after a 1pt conversion. After a defensive stop, Sarah Mowery caught a ball on a deflection to give the Hooligans a 9-pt girl TD; the lead grew to 16-0. With 26 seconds to go in the first half, the Hooligans called a timeout as they neared the Punishers' endzone, looking to put up another score and grow the lead before halftime. However, Martell Buchanan intercepted a short pass and took it the distance for the touchdown, changing the momentum of the game.
In the second half, momentum continued to mount for the Punishers. Jordan Marken ran in for one of several TDs on the day to make it a 16-14 game, and the Punishers forced a punt by the Hooligans on their next possession. Another score and 2-pt conversion grew the lead to 22-16, and a failed 4th-down conversion attempt on the Hooligans' next series gave the Punishers a short field to work with. Sought-after recruit Jess Braun made a sensational catch in the back of the endzone for the Punishers to give them 9 points, sliding the required one foot in-bounds. The final score wasn't entirely indicative of the way the game went, as a few late interceptions returned for TDs allowed the Punishers to punch in some extra points late. The Hooligans were missing several players, and will look to rebound tomorrow (Wednesday) at 4pm vs the Phlaming Belly Buttons. Formerly known as ANDREW GUMM last year in a confusing twist because Andrew Gumm was not actually on the team, Brenda Hawkins' squad will open their season against the Hooligans. If stats become available, they will be posted as soon as possible. Box score Half 1 2 Hooligans 16 0 Punishers 8 38 The Pigskin Hooligans' season opener will be this Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 4:00 on the CUAA intramural fields against the Pebble Creek Punishers. Led by Tyler Case, the Punishers are this year's edition of last year's Kidney Stones. This will be a rivalry game for the Hooligans as many of these players were on the Kidney Stones team that defeated the Hooligans in the championship game last year.
One story to watch is the performance of Jessica Braun. Jess was recruited by the Punishers just a day before the Hooligans tried to get her. While she found the "recruiting speech" quite epic, she had unfortunately already been claimed. Another story to watch is newcomer to the Punishers, Andrew Gumm, who captained his own team last year and was known as the "Whirling Dervish". The Punishers will probably be the toughest team the Hooligans will face this year and will have plenty of speedy options. Come on out and support the Hooligans! With the roster set for the upcoming season, let's take a look at the team the Hooligans will field this year:
- Mike Russell, senior (5th yr): Mike has been a Hooligan lifer. He took over the captaincy of the team from Michelle Baumgardner in 2007 after playing in 2006 and has assembled a roster every year since. Many a recruit (well, actually only Brittany Davis) has been swayed by his epic "recruiting speech". While Mike has yet to find the endzone in his career, he comes into the season much more conditioned after having played ultimate frisbee this fall. As a grizzled veteran, he looks to finally go out a winner and score that elusive first touchdown this year. - Bernard Joseph, sophomore: Bernard is a returning Pigskin Hooligan. He was a dominant player last year for the Hooligans and could out-jump anyone in the league. He then took his talents to Concordia's varsity football team this year where he played wide receiver and defensive end. Bernard will serve as the Hooligans' one allowed "pro" player as he has collegiate football experience. Upon signing with the Hooligans, he had this to say: "Join us or lose." - Max Joseph, senior: Max will join brother Bernard as a returning Pigskin Hooligan this season. Max was also a dominant player last year as his jumping ability and speed made him a great target at receiver. He also put in some time at the quarterback position, earning himself the nickname "Black Favre" with his high lofting passes. The Joseph brothers will once again be a dangerous combination. - Zach Johnston, grad student: Zach is the fourth returning Hooligan this season. After finishing his baseball career at Concordia, Zach came back for grad school and as such is eligible to play intramurals again. Zach brings a great deal of speed to the Hooligans, and without the time conflicts that baseball practice often caused last year he should be much more available. Zach had this to say upon signing: "Let's not lose in the championship game again." - Billy Kohls, senior (5th yr): Billy is the 5th and final returning Hooligan this year. Billy also brought a great deal of speed to the Hooligans last year, and like Zach Johnston he should be more available without the baseball practice time conflicts. Captain Mike Russell made sure to remind him about being a Hooligan in Ethical Decision Making, and Billy seems to be highly motivated for the season after having finished his Concordia baseball career. - Zach Milner, freshman: Zach will be a newcomer to the Pigskin Hooligans this year. He brings some speed and expects to be a Charles Woodson-type safety. Zach has played in the Ann Arbor Ultimate Frisbee League, so he has experience playing in a competitive environment and should fit in nicely. - Dan Maske, senior: Dan had been recruited by the Hooligans before, but as much as he wanted to play he never had the time. This year, Dan approached captain Mike Russell near the beginning of the school year and stated that he wanted to play for the Hooligans this year. Dan will bring a steadying veteran presence to the team. - Josh Ulm, freshman: Josh is another newcomer to the Hooligans this year. He played on the ultimate frisbee counterpart, the Frisbee Hooligans, this year and was highly motivated to join the drive for the flag football season. He could see some time at QB or possibly the offensive line. - Steve Lestock, senior: Steve is new to the Hooligans this year but brings prior flag football experience. Steve was a member of the Two Dollar Bill team that upset the highly-favored Blue Angels of Bret Counts in the playoffs back in 2008. Steve also participated in the Frisbee Hooligans this year. He has cross country experience as well and should be a solid veteran addition. - Thuy Phan, senior: Thuy mentioned to captain Mike Russell last spring that she had interest in playing flag football this year. Although a newcomer, Thuy brings intramural experience having been one of the more coordinated members of the Two Dollar Bill IM volleyball team in the past spring. She also participated in Concordia's dance team for several years, and she might just find herself dancing in the endzone this year. - Sarah Mowery, sophomore: Sarah expressed interest in playing flag football last year, but was unable to find a team. Captain Mike Russell took note of this and was able to make an early start to the recruiting process for this year. Sarah brings good catching ability to the team, and she also participated in the Frisbee Hooligans this year. |
