Wed, Nov. 3 - The Hooligans returned to their winning ways today with a victory over the Phlaming Belly Buttons by a score of 43-8. The Belly Buttons only fielded a team of 4 players for the game, so the Hooligans took the sportsmanlike route and agreed to play 6-on-4. Zach Johnston got things started for the Hooligans with a touchdown scamper, and the Hooligans would put up several more scores to stretch the lead to 26-0 by halftime. Captain Mike Russell finally scored that elusive first career touchdown to give the Hooligans the 26-0 lead, as he ran a short out-route and caught the ball on the left side of the endzone. Thuy Phan also scored her first career TD in the second half to stretch the lead to 35-0. Thuy had an interception as well which she nearly took all the way to the opposing endzone; a TD-saving holding penalty by Orin Koester prevented the score.
Zach Johnston, Zach Milner, Max Joseph, Josh Ulm, and Steve Lestock were all active for the Hooligans with either interceptions or touchdowns. The Hooligan defense held solidly throughout the game, although the Belly Buttons did get a late TD reception from Orin Koester to get on the board and added a 2-pt conversion. There was a crowd of 3-4 people throughout the game to watch the Hooligans including Concordia business faculty Prof. Weyand, whom Mike/Thuy convinced to come watch the first half. The Hooligans are now off until Sunday when they will take on the Gamecocks at 5pm. Led by Thomas Sperry, the Gamecocks are comprised primarily of baseball players. They also have Danielle Guss/Ashley Hart from Concordia's volleyball team. Come on out and cheer on the Hooligans! Box score Half 1 2 Hooligans 26 17 Belly Buttons 0 8
