![]() Sun, Nov 23 - The #3-seeded Pigskin Hooligans continued to turn their season around by clinching a spot in the championship game for the 5th time in the last 6 years going back to 2009. With nearly their entire roster available for the game the team pulled off a first-round upset by defeating #2 Bottom of the Fifth 63-47. The Hooligans jumped out to a 31-11 lead in the first half and never looked back, controlling the game throughout. The team will now advance to play #1 seed Bottom of the 5th at a date which is yet to be determined. Micah Oetting would then tie Zach Johnston's franchise record for interceptions in a game by making his third pick of the game, and Marshall Oetting would wait patiently in the pocket for routes to develop eventually firing a TD pass to Tyler Baker just before the half. On their next possession Bottom of the Fifth made a quarterback change to Ryan Vitale, and he would fire a deep bomb to Wes Vaughn to score quickly. But once again the Hooligans would answer as Lukas Mueller caught his second touchdown of the game to make it 51-27. Jessa Barjaktarovich would propel her team to make a late comeback attempt as she took a handoff just outside the goalline and rushed into the endzone for her second score of the day. Micah Oetting would switch in at quarterback and find his brother Marshall Oetting for a touchdown, but Jessa Barjaktarovich would take a lateral for her third touchdown of the day with just under 2 minutes to go. The Hooligans would go on offense looking to manage the clock with a suddenly narrow 57-47 lead. Bottom of the Fifth sent two blitzers after QB Micah Oetting, but he would calmly handle the pressure and fire a deep pass downfield to Pat Brooks who made a sensational diving catch just outside the 1-yard line with Aaron Palmer draped all over him. That match was an 84-0 loss to Erik Schultz's dominant Gamecocks team. But the Hooligans have come a long way since then, and on that very same field the team earned their first win in 2014 in a 65-55 shootout over Bottom of the Fifth. Angela Martin made history by catching her 22nd career TD in the match, passing Josh Ulm to become the Hooligans' new career TD leader. Bottom of the Fifth began the game on offense, and Codey Harrison would connect with Wes Vaughn for a touchdown on the game's opening drive with Adrienne Kanitz adding a 2-pt conversion catch. The Hooligans would counter as Marshall Oetting would lead his team down the field and find Pat Brooks in the endzone with Micah Oetting tying the game with a 2-pt PAT. Angela Martin and Dana Ford would arrive on the scene in the next series, allowing the team to move up to 7 players on the field instead of 5. However Adrienne Kanitz would take a hand-off and make a short run into the endzone to open up a 19-8 lead for Bottom of the Fifth. Marshall Oetting once again drove the Hooligans down the field just outside the endzone, and he would patiently wait until Angela Martin got open to fire a TD strike and tie the game. Codey Harrison would lead his team back down the field, making a long run from the quarterback position to pull Bottom of the Fifth ahead again 27-19. But the Hooligans would tie the game once more as Lukas Mueller showed his speed on the way to the endzone with Dana Ford adding the game-tying PAT. The Hooligans defense would then force a critical turnover on downs on the next series, giving the team 30 seconds left to go for a score before halftime. However Wes Vaughn came out of nowhere to snatch up an attempted lateral by Micah Oetting, ending the threat and giving his own team the ball with 15 seconds left in the half. Adrienne Kanitz would add another reception before time expired, but the score at the half would be all tied up 27-27. The Hooligans would begin the second half on offense and Marshall Oetting would thread the needle through a diving Wes Vaughn to find his twin brother Micah Oetting on the left side of the endzone with Justin Litzner adding the 2-pt PAT catch. Marshall Oetting would then make a huge play on defense as he came up with a pick 6 to put the Hooligans up by 2 scores at 43-27. Bottom of the Fifth would not go away as Codey Harrison would drive his team down the field and find Ryan Vitale in the endzone with Aaron Palmer adding a 2-pt conversion. But the Hooligans would add to their lead as Angela Martin took a short swing pass and made two sensational juke moves, showing her blazing speed to run past the defense all the way to the endzone. Codey Harrison would connect again with Ryan Vitale on the next series for a touchdown, and Wes Vaughn would come up with a huge pick 6 for his team on the next series to make the game close again at 54-49. Codey Harrison would hook up with Wes Vaughn for one last touchdown at the end of the game, but time would run out and the Hooligans claimed a 65-55 victory.
