Sun, Nov 14 - The Pigskin Hooligans sent a message to the rest of the league Sunday that they are nearing their top form from last year. With a defeat of the previously undefeated Punishers by a score of 61-46, the Hooligans have won 3 in a row and hold a 4-2 record. The Punishers were without a girl and forced to play 5-vs-7, but they had some of their most athletic players present. The Hooligans started the game on offense and were driving down the field when Jim Abrams forced a Thuy Phan fumble and returned it for a big gain. Martell Buchanan ran in a quick TD to put the Punishers up 6-0, but the Hooligans quickly answered with a TD strike to Ryan Noack. The teams traded scores and Ryan Noack caught another TD pass to put the Hooligans up 14-12. On the Hooligans' next possession, Zach Johnston broke a big gain when blitzed and appeared headed to the endzone. However, he unselfishly lateraled off to Thuy Phan after the Punishers' defense gave up on the play so the Hooligans could get a 9-pt girl TD instead; the score was her 5th TD of the year. Those extra 3 pts played a role in the game later, and at halftime the Hooligans' lead stood at 29-20.
The game continued to be a wild shootout in the second half. As stated before, although undermanned the Punishers had a dangerous 5 players in the game and were able to break big gains on the Hooligans' defense. On offense, though, the 2-player advantage certainly made a difference as the Hooligans almost always had an open receiver. Late in the game, the Hooligans held a 49-40 lead when the Punishers scored to make it 49-46. The extra 3 points from Thuy Phan's earlier TD played a role as the Punishers were now forced to try the 3pt conversion from midfield; they were unsuccessful. Ali Diallo scored his 2nd TD of the day on the next series and added an interception return for a TD afterwards as the Hooligans cruised to the 61-46 victory. New signee Ali Diallo paced the Hooligans with 3 TDs on the day, making an immediate impact. Max Joseph had several interceptions on the day and played solid defense. Captain Mike Russell mainly served as a decoy receiver but did have a catch for a 1-pt conversion. Josh Ulm had several key receptions to keep drives alive and gain yardage. Zach Johnston had an excellent passing day throwing for 6 TDs. For the Punishers, Jordan Marken and Martell Buchanan had several scores on the day. The Hooligans will play the 2nd of 4 games in a row tomorrow (Monday) at 5pm in a rematch with Bri Sonnenberg's Ninety-Fives. They will then play Tuesday at 5pm versus the Gamecocks and Wednesday at 4pm versus the Ragin' Cajun Hot Stixxx. ROLL HOOLIGANS!
