The Hooligans are making wholesale changes to their lineup for Thursday's early tilt with No Name. Due to some massive availability problems for Thursday's game the team is temporarily subbing out Ethan Anderson, Mary Kreutzkamp, Breannea King, and Karen Greficz. The team will be returning Jake Oliver back for the day as a sub and will be adding a few subs and one permanent addition as well. Let's take a look: ![]() Zeb Hancock, sophomore, 1st yr Hooligan - Zeb Hancock will be leaving Dream Team Plus Krysiak in a high-profile move to sign with the Hooligans. The Hooligans first faced Zeb back in 2009 when he was captain of Shake N' Bake. His blazing speed has drawn raves from his baseball teammates, sparking comments such as "he's the fastest white kid I've ever seen". When Captain Mike Russell became aware that Zeb desired to leave his team for a different one, he worked with Zach Johnston to persuade him to join. Zeb will provide an immediate impact on both sides of the football and could be the final piece to the Hooligans' championship puzzle. ![]() Sarah Mowery, junior, 2nd yr Hooligan - Sarah Mowery returns to the Hooligans as a sub after a solid 2010 season. Sarah showed good catching ability for the team last year, notching several TDs. Unfortunately her schedule has prevented her from being able to make almost all of the games this year so the team could not retain her. Watching Sarah play last year inspired current Hooligan Eric Koester to show interest in the team. Sarah will provide a familiar face and dependable target for the Hooligans and the team is happy to bring her back for a game! ![]() Angela Martin, freshman, 1st yr Hooligan - Angela Martin will sub in for the Hooligans as a freshman. Angela is a member of the softball team at Concordia, expected to see time at both catcher and infield. She claims to have beaten Hooligans QB Zach Johnston in a race, though some dispute the accuracy of the claim. Her speed will be a key asset to the Hooligans as well as her catching skills from her powder puff background. Upon joining the Hooligans, Angela had this to say: "I am excited to be part of a franchise with such a great history!" You can see all of these 3 new signees in action today Thursday at 3:00pm against interdivisional foe No Name. We would like to remind all new Hooligans that the team color is white, so be sure to wear white to the game! ROLL HOOLIGANS!

We hope all of our fans and players had a great Thanksgiving! The Hooligans will conclude their regular season on Thursday, Dec 1st against No Name at 3:00. With a win the franchise will own a .500 winning percentage all time. ROLL HOOLIGANS!
Mon, Nov 21 - The Pigskin Hooligans sent a message to the league with a solid showing in their 50th Game Classic. While the game was close in the first half, the Hooligans exploded with 48 second-half points in a 79-42 romp over division rival Falcons N' Stuff. The victory set franchise records for most points scored in a game and largest margin of victory. The win also mathematically guarantees that the Hooligans will win the Mac division, earning a first-round bye in the playoffs.
Zach Milner nearly started the game out with a pick, and the Hooligans' defense forced a 4th down before Falcons N' Stuff managed to get past midfield. The Hooligans found a familiar face playing against them, as former team member Ryan Noack used his height to haul in both a short TD catch and a 1-pt conversion to give his team a 7-0 lead. The Hooligans went back out on offense, and systematically drove down the field with Zach Milner notching the TD and Ethan Anderson catching a 1-pt conversion to tie the game. Nick Lyscas ran in a touchdown after taking a handoff, but the Hooligans answered as Cody Cotner went deep and Zach Johnston fired over the top of the defense for the TD. Justin Schultz broke up the 1-pt conversion attempt to retain the lead, and Jay Krause caught a TD pass from Nick Lyscas to push the score to 21-13. On the next Hooligans' possession Ethan Anderson turned a short pass into a long TD score, juking to avoid flag grabs, and Karen Greficz caught a 2-pt conversion to tie the game. After a defensive stop the Hooligans had about 1:30 left to score, and Breannea King "fought through the night till she saw the sunlight" of the endzone to give the team a 31-21 lead at halftime. The Hooligans began the second half on offense, and Karen Greficz used her speed to break a big gain off a short pass for a TD. Following a Karen Greficz interception, Cody Cotner used his speed and elusiveness to make defenders miss and pushed the score to 47-21 with his 2nd TD of the game. Falcons N' Stuff did score on their next drive as Justin Schultz caught a short pass and picked up a bunch of yards and a TD. The Hooligans went to their girls again on the next play as Breannea King caught a pass in the endzone for her 2nd score of the game. Zach Milner finally got the interception he wanted on the next play, as an Ethan Anderson blitz led to Milner getting the "pick 6" and made the score 63-27. Former Hooligan Ryan Noack struck again on a deep pass play to get his team on the board again, but Robert Myers caught a short pass off a trick play from Cody Cotner to tack on more points. On the next series a furious blitz from captain Mike Russell forced Jay Krause into a quick throw and Karen Greficz intercepted the pass, returning it for her 2nd TD of the day. Jay Krause did recover on the next series by finding Ryan Noack for the score and the 3-pt conversion run by Pat Gates was good, but the Hooligans would claim the win. For the Hooligans Zach Johnston finished with 7 TD passes on the day as well as running for 2 PATs. Cody Cotner continued to show his skills with 2 TD receptions, a passing TD, and a PAT. Fellow collegiate Ethan Anderson also had a good day with a TD catch and a PAT to go along with solid defense. Zach Milner continues to have a solid season notching 2 TDs on the day, 1 off an INT. Karen Greficz had an amazing day as she notched 2 TDs to go along with 2 INTs and a PAT on the day, the 2 INTs possibly being a single-game Hooligans female record. Breannea King was solid as well with 2 TD catches on the day giving her a team-leading 5 for the year. Captain Mike Russell had 2 pass receptions, 1 of which went for a long gain, as well as a blitz that led to the 2nd Karen Greficz interception. Robert Myers played solid defense throughout the game and had a receiving TD. Josh Ulm had 5 receptions on the day including a PAT and also threw a PAT pass to Cody Cotner. For Falcons N' Stuff, Nick Lyscas did everything he could to keep his team in the game with 3 TD passes and a TD run. Jay Krause also saw some reps at QB passing for 2 TDs as well as catching a TD pass. Former Hooligan Ryan Noack had an excellent day against his old team as he finished with 3 TD receptions in the game and a PAT. Dangerous receiver Justin Schultz was held in check this game after torching the Hooligans' defense last time, finishing with 1 TD catch and a PAT. Leigh McRobbie served as her team's only girl for the day and did well, catching a PAT. Pat Gates finished with a long 3-pt conversion PAT run at the end of the game. Tyler Cronkight was held off the stat sheet in the game but played good defense with several flag grabs. The Hooligans now move to 4-1-1 on the season with the victory. They are also now 24-25-1 all-time as a franchise, and will have a chance to get to .500 in their next matchup against interdivisional foe No Name. While the game was originally scheduled for Sunday, November 27 at 5:00pm, this game will be rescheduled due to falling over Thanksgiving break. We are unsure when the new date will be but will provide an update as soon as possible. ROLL HOOLIGANS! With Mary Kreutzkamp unable to play in Monday's game due to Arborsong practice she has temporarily been subbed out. Long-time Hooligans fans will recognize a familiar face that has been brought in for this historic game: ![]() Katie Moro, senior (6th yr), 2nd yr Hooligan - Katie Moro returns for her second year as a Hooligan. Katie was a part of the celebrated 2009 Pigskin Hooligans team that went 9-3, earning the #1 seed in the regular season and appearing in the championship game. She played in 2 games that season notching 3 pass receptions including a PAT. Katie was also a member of the Concordia soccer team in 2010 where she played midfield. She had this to say about returning to the Hooligans: "Let the bodies hit the floor!" Wed, Nov 16 - The Pigskin Hooligans collected their second straight forfeit victory on Wednesday, moving to 3-1-1 on the season. This time it was division rival I Love It When They Call Us Big Poppa who did not have enough players for the game. The result gives the Hooligans a commanding lead in the Mac division and also gives them a sweep in the season series. Captain Mike Russell, Zach Johnston, Cody Cotner, Ethan Anderson, Zach Milner, Robert Myers, Eric Koester, and Mary Kreutzkamp were present to collect the victory.
Following the forfeit decision, the Hooligans once again elected to play an intrasquad scrimmage game. The team once again divided into teams led by Cody Cotner and Ethan Anderson. Team Cotner also consisted of captain Mike Russell and Zach Milner, while Team Anderson also had Eric Koester and Robert Myers. Big Poppa team member Jordan Marken stayed for part of the scrimmage game and served partly as all-time QB. Both teams were given 4 downs to score as before, and touchdowns counted for 7 points with no conversions. Both teams came up with defensive stops to start the game, as Cody Cotner intercepted a 4th-down pass by Jordan Marken but the team failed to reach the endzone on their possession. Jordan Marken found Ethan Anderson for a touchdown to open the scoring with a 7-0 lead for Team Anderson. Eric Koester then switched to being all-time QB, and he fired passes on consecutive drives to Jordan Marken and Robert Myers to open up a 21-0 lead. Team Cotner would answer, however, as Zach Milner caught a TD pass from Eric Koester and then took a handoff for a TD to cut the lead to 21-14. Team Anderson responded as Eric Koester hooked up with Jordan Marken for a touchdown, after which time Marken had to leave the game. The teams now played a straight-up 3-on-3 game, with Cody Cotner taking most of the QB reps for his squad. Team Cotner broke out some trick plays as Zach Milner passed to Cody Cotner for a touchdown to pull within 7 points once again. Robert Myers scored his 2nd TD of the game for Team Anderson and Zach Milner responded by taking a lateral for a score. Solid defense by Team Cotner allowed them to stop Team Anderson on back-to-back series, and Cody Cotner threw a TD to Zach Milner and then took a lateral for a score to give his team a 42-35 lead. Ethan Anderson tossed a pass to Robert Myers to even the score at 42-42, and the teams decided to have overtime with college rules. Eric Koester ran in a TD for his team, staying in bounds and pushing the ball across the plane for a 49-42 lead. Team Cotner answered once again as Cody Cotner found Mike Russell for a TD pass to tie the game at 49-49. At this point many players wanted to go and the scrimmage ended in a 49-49 tie. For Team Cotner, Cody Cotner continued to display his great athleticism and versatility with passing, rushing, and receiving touchdowns. Zach Milner continued to show more dependable hands catching the ball allowing him to use his speed to make plays. Captain Mike Russell had a pass knockdown and a handoff in the game to go along with his touchdown. For Team Anderson, Ethan Anderson threw a touchdown and also ran with the ball several times. Eric Koester performed well as both all-time QB and strictly for his team. Robert Myers had 3 TD receptions in the game and continues to have an outstanding freshman year. Jordan Marken also did well as both all-time QB and as a receiver in his time in the game. The Hooligans are scheduled to play next on Monday, November 21 at 4:00pm in a divsional rematch against Falcons' N' Stuff. The teams played to a wild 54-54 tie in double OT in their last meeting. It is possible that the team's game on Sunday, November 27 against No Name may be rescheduled for a different date before Thanskgiving break, so check back for updates! Either way, the Hooligans' next game will be the 50th in franchise history, as the team moved to 23-25-1 all time with the win today. ROLL HOOLIGANS! He brings an athletic background to the team, having played baseball and one year of football in high school. Jake showed good speed in the team's intrasquad scrimmage, notching 2 touchdowns. If the Hooligans need a sub in the future he will definitely be kept in mind! Pigskin Hooligans 14, The "A" Team 0 (forfeit) / Team Anderson 63, Team Cotner 51 (scrimmage)11/13/2011 Sun, Nov 13 - The Pigskin Hooligans collected a 14-0 forfeit victory over The "A" Team on Sunday as none of the opposing players showed up. The victory moves the Hooligans to 2-1-1 on the season and a 1.5 game lead in the Mac division over I Love It When They Call Us Big Poppa (1-2) and Falcons N' Stuff (0-2-1). 9 Hooligans were there to collect the forfeit win: captain Mike Russell, Josh Ulm, Mary Kreutzkamp, Cody Cotner, Ethan Anderson, Zach Johnston, Zach Milner, Robert Myers, and new signee Jake Oliver. The forfeit win was the 5th such victory in franchise history.
With such a large assembly of Hooligans present, the teams decided to play a pickup game. Pro players Cody Cotner and Ethan Anderson served as the captains, and Zach Johnston served as all-time QB given the odd number of people. Team Cotner added captain Mike Russell, Josh Ulm, and Mary Kreutzkamp, while Team Anderson added Zach Milner, Robert Myers, and Jake Oliver. Male touchdowns were ruled 7 points in lieu of conversions, while girl touchdowns remained at 9 points. Both teams were given 4 downs total to score a touchdown. Both teams traded touchdowns early and would continue to do so for most of the game. Zach Milner sprang a long gain to give Team Anderson a 7-0 lead, but Josh Ulm caught a TD pass to tie it 7-7. Robert Myers caught a pass and took it the distance for a 14-7 lead for Team Anderson, but Cody Cotner showed his blazing speed to tie the game at 14-14. Ethan Anderson was left open for a long touchdown to give his team a 21-14 lead, but Mary Kreutzkamp's TD reception gave Team Cotner a 23-21 lead with the 9-pt girl TD. Team Anderson then proceeded to break out the I-formation with an option attack, and Ethan Anderson took a handoff up the middle for a 27-23 lead. Team Cotner had an answer as Cody Cotner caught a deep pass and could not be caught. The option attack again caught Team Cotner off guard and Robert Myers scored another TD. But captain Mike Russell caught a short pass on the left side of the endzone to give his team the 35-33 lead. Team Anderson opened up the playbook on the next series as Ethan Anderson took a handoff, lateraled back to Robert Myers, and then got way behind the defense to catch a TD pass from Myers. The teams continued to trade scores back and forth as Cody Cotner once again took the ball to the house for a 41-39 lead. Team Anderson had an answer as Jake Oliver showed off some speed and got past the defense for the TD. Cody Cotner again could not be stopped on the next play, and Zach Milner answered for Team Anderson and the 51-47 lead. At this point Zach Johnston proposed that the teams only get 2 downs to score and that the first team to get a stop and score would win. While Team Cotner advanced the ball to midfield they failed to connect on a deep pass near the endzone. Jake Oliver would catch his 2nd TD of the game for Team Anderson, and they emerged with the 57-47 win. Zach Johnston had an amazing day passing the ball, finishing with a total of 14 TD passes (8 to Team Cotner, 6 to Team Anderson). For Team Cotner, their star Cody Cotner had 4 receiving TDs on the day and showed off his speed on both sides of the ball. Captain Mike Russell notched a couple receptions in the game including a touchdown. Josh Ulm had a touchdown on the team's opening drive and several other receptions. Mary Kreutzkamp also recorded several catches and a TD of the 9-pt variety. For Team Anderson, Ethan Anderson caught 2 TDs and ran one in. Robert Myers had 2 receiving TDs and also threw the TD pass on their epic trick play to Ethan Anderson. Zach Milner had a solid 2 TDs on the day and continues to grow more comfortable catching the ball. Jake Oliver also had 2 TDs on the day and looks to be a solid sub when the Hooligans can work him in. You can catch the Hooligans in action next when they take on division foe I Love It When They Call Us Big Poppa (1-2) on Wednesday at 4:00. Big Poppa is coming off a close 46-44 loss today in their game against No Name. Wed, Nov 9 - In the longest game in Pigskin Hooligan history, the team played to the first ever tie in Hooligan history in a crazy game against division rival Falcons N' Stuff. The game was exciting and filled with lead changes and plenty of disputed calls by either team. Both teams had their chances to win the game, and the Hooligans had both some great clutch plays and some disappointing drops and missed flag grabs.
The wind was a big factor in the game, and the Hooligans began the game on defense going into the wind so as to have it at their backs for the second half. Nick Lyscas opened the scoring for Falcons N' Stuff by finding Cory Briggs for a touchdown, though the surprising call to go for 3 was no good. The Hooligans countered on their following drive, as Zach Johnston found Robert Myers who did a great job staying in bounds for a long TD run. On the next possession Kelsie Kaiser broke a long gain down the sideline but was stopped short of the goal line. The Hooligans' defense came up with a huge goal line stand to prevent Falcons N' Stuff from scoring, though they were stalled on their next drive as well. Nick Lyscas took advantage of the shorter field hitting Jay Krause in the endzone, and a 3-point conversion to Pat Gates was also good for a 15-6 lead. But the Hooligans would again battle back as Breannea King scored on a lateral from Zach Johnston. After the defense forced a turnover Breannea King scored again on a Zach Johnston pass, as if to say to the defense "you know we're superstars, we are who we are". As the half ran down poor flag grabs allowed Pat Gates to score with minimal time left, and a 3-pt conversion by Justin Schultz left the Hooligans leading just 26-24 at half. Despite starting with the ball on offense the Hooligans failed to score, and Nick Lyscas would find Justin Schultz to give Falcons N' Stuff the lead back. Once more the Hooligans had an answer as Zach Johnston tossed a pass to Eric Koester, and following a Mary Kreutzkamp 1-pt conversion they led 33-30. Nick Lyscas scrambled from the QB position and dove for a TD to regain the lead, but Mary Kreutzkamp hauled in her first TD of the year for the key 9-pt score as an answer. With the Hooligans holding a 42-36 lead Justin Schultz came up big with another TD, but the 1pt conversion failed so the score was tied 42-42. The Hooligans had a chance to drive down the field for a winning score, but a Zach Johnston pass was batted and intercepted. On the ensuing drive Justin Schultz again was open in the front of the endzone and gave his team a 48-42 lead with under a minute left. However a critical swearing penalty on Kyle Winningham following a missed conversion may have cost his team the win. The Hooligans began with the ball at midfield, and following a timeout and a few quick plays Zach Milner came up with a huge TD catch to tie the game at 48. Breannea King appeared to have the winning 1-pt conversion catch, but she was ruled out of bounds and the game went to overtime. Josh Ulm and Mary Kreutzkamp were forced to depart for overtime, leaving the Hooligans with a 6-on-7 disadvantage. Falcons N' Stuff failed to score on their possession, as an offensive pass interference penalty took away a touchdown. The Hooligans had their chances to score as well, but a pass intended for captain Mike Russell was intercepted by Justin Schultz and the first OT was finished. In the second overtime, Robert Myers caught his second TD pass of the game from Zach Johnston to give the Hooligans a 54-48 lead, but the 1-pt conversion was just barely incomplete. Falcons N' Stuff had an answer as well, as Jay Krause took a lateral for the TD but they also failed to convert. By the new rules this year the game should have gone to a 3rd overtime, but due to availability issues and darkness referee Andrew Gumm called the game in a 54-54 tie. Zach Johnston continued to capably direct the Hooligans' offense, showing great speed running from the QB position while finishing with 6 TD passes. Robert Myers continued to have a good freshman campaign with 2 TD passes as well as blitzing the opposing QB defensively. Breannea King continued to be an outstanding sub with 2 TDs on the day as well as several other receptions and a near interception. Eric Koester notched a TD on the day and showed hustle on defense. Mary Kreutzkamp had a good day as well, catching her first TD of the year as well as a 1-pt conversion and making several other receptions. Zach Milner continued to be a factor on the year, scoring the crucial game-tying TD as time expired and running with the ball several times. Captain Mike Russell and Josh Ulm often subbed for one another on offense/defense, with Ulm notching several pass receptions and a 1-pt conversion and Russell typically matching up with Justin Schultz defensively. For Falcons N' Stuff, Nick Lyscas finished with 6 TD passes on the day as well as running in a TD himself. Justin Schultz was their offensive star with 3 receiving TDs and a 3-pt conversion on the day. Cory Briggs caught the team's opening touchdown. Jay Krause had 2 TDs on the day, one receiving and one rushing off a lateral. Kelsie Kaiser had a few receptions on the day and nearly scored on her team's second drive. Pat Gates had a solid outing with a touchdown and a 3-pt conversion. Tyler Cronkight was involved with the offense, often handing the ball to Nick Lyscas to give him the run/pass option. Team members Erika Eneix and Leigh McRobbie were on the sideline for the game but never entered. 2010 Hooligan Sarah Mowery was in attendance towards the end of the game to cheer on the team. The game brings the Hooligans' record to 1-1-1 on the season. At present they remain tied for #1 in the Mac division with I Love It When They Call Us Big Poppa (1-1) and now Falcons N' Stuff (0-2-1). These two division rivals will meet again on Monday, November 21 at 4:00pm in the rematch. The Hooligans' next game will be this Sunday at 5:00pm against inter-divisional foe The "A" Team. The Hooligans brought a familiar face out of retirement as a sub for Sunday's big matchup... ![]() Ryan Noack, senior, 4th year Hooligan - Ryan has now played all or part of every season for the Pigskin Hooligans in his time at Concordia. He was an important part of the 2009 Pigskin Hooligans team that went to the championship game. Ryan has been a standout pitcher on Concordia's baseball team for 3 years so far, and he looks to have a huge senior year on the mound. His 6' 5" height and athleticism are key assets to the team on both offense and defense. Sun, Nov 6 - Something had to give in a marquee inter-divisional matchup between arguably the top two teams in either division. The game was close in the first half but Dream Team Plus Krysiak (referred to henceforth as Dream Team) ran away with the game in the second, sending a message to the league with a 49-19 win. Short passes that went for long gains plagued the Hooligans' defense all game, and the use of motion and misdirection plays by Dream Team was very effective.
Dream Team scored on its opening possession, as Zach Paustian found Kevin Krysiak on a short pass which he turned into a long gain. But the Hooligans quickly answered as Zach Johnston passed to Ethan Anderson for a touchdown, and after Johnston rushed for a 1-pt conversion they led 7-6. Dream Team had an answer as Zach Paustian fired again to the endzone, this time finding tall target Tom Sperry for the score and claiming a 12-7 lead. The Hooligans countered on their next series, as Ryan Noack used his height to come up with a sensational catch on a ball that must have been tipped at least 3 or 4 times. Zach Paustian and Kevin Krysiak hooked up again on the next series, and although the Hooligans drove towards the endzone at the end of the first half time ran out. The Hooligans trailed at halftime 18-13, but would start the second half with the ball. The Hooligans' offense struggled in the second half, as the relentless blitzes of Dream Team continued to hurry QB Zach Johnston. Dream Team opened up the playbook and called a hook-and-lateral to get Erin Dirobbio into the endzone for a 9-pt score. After more stalled Hooligan drives Zach Paustian tossed a strike to Ryan Neu for a TD on 2 straight possessions to open up a 42-13 lead. The Hooligans would get on the board again late as Zach Johnston passed to Ethan Anderson who broke a long gain to the endzone for 6. The final scoring play of the game would be Zeb Hancock scoring on a lateral and the game would end 49-19 in favor of Dream Team. For the Hooligans, Zach Johnston finished with 3 passing TDs and consistently rushed the quarterback on defense. Ethan Anderson had an excellent Hooligan debut with 2 touchdowns and good defensive hustle, nearly intercepting a pass as well. Fellow collegiate player Cody Cotner had several nice catches on offense and took a lateral for a big gain, while defensively he chased down Kevin Krysiak to prevent a TD and showed good hustle. Newly unretired Ryan Noack had a good game as a sub with a TD, an interception on a 2-pt conversion, and good defense. Zach Milner and Robert Myers showed good hustle on both sides of the ball and recorded several receptions for big gains as well as flag grabs. Betty Budd played the entire game as the team's only girl and took a shovel pass for a decent gain towards the end of the game. Captain Mike Russell played a few series in the game and mainly served in a coaching capacity. For Dream Team, Zach Paustian threw for 5 TDs on the day and scrambled well from the QB position. Kevin Krysiak showed great speed rushing the QB on defense and finishing with 2 receiving TDs. Zeb Hancock also blitzed the QB well and finished with a touchdown on a lateral. Ryan Neu had a solid day with 2 TDs receiving. Tom Sperry finished with a TD and 2 PATs. Kevin Collica and Robbie Lindley saw time on several series in the game, with Collica notching a PAT. Softball duo Ashley Chang and Erin Dirobbio subbed for one another throughout the game, with Dirobbio finding the endzone off a trick play. The Hooligans fall to 1-1 on the young season after the loss. They will look to regroup with a Mac division matchup against Falcons N' Stuff on Wednesday at 4pm. Both teams will be looking to bounce back after tough losses, as Falcons N' Stuff fell to The "'A" Team today by a score of 38-13. ROLL HOOLIGANS! With some Hooligans unavailable for the opening game Betty Budd and Ethan Anderson were temporarily subbed out. They have already been re-added to the team and will be making their debut on Sunday! However the Hooligans are happy to announce their 2 subs for today's game: ![]() Breannea King, senior, 1st yr Hooligan - Breannea is "technically" a newcomer to the Hooligans. She was signed last year for the team's playoff run but her work schedule made her unable to play in the team's one game. Breannea has been a solid player for Concordia's softball team, seeing time at both 1st and 3rd base. Her athleticism was a great contribution to the team and she notched a TD and 1-pt conversion. As last year, upon signing with the team Breannea had this to say: "I am ecstatic!". ![]() Karen Greficz, senior, 1st yr Hooligan - Karen is a "true" newcomer to the Hooligans, joining boyfriend Zach Johnston on the team. Karen has also been a solid player for Concordia's softball team, seeing time in the outfield and using her speed to hit and run at bat. She also played for several years on Concordia's women's basketball team. Karen notched a TD on a lateral in her Hooligan debut and also blitzed the opposing quarterback. Wed, Nov 2 - The Pigskin Hooligans opened their season to high expectations and excellent weather. The team did not disappoint, as they scored on every possession in a wild high-scoring 59-52 win over division rival I Love It When They Call Us Big Poppa (referred to as Big Poppa henceforth).
The teams began the game playing 5-on-5 as they were both lacking a girl on the field. Big Poppa started with the ball and Paul Neumeyer hooked up with Spencer Behmlander for a long gain and the first touchdown of the 2011 season. After a successful 2pt conversion to Jordan Marken the ball went back to the Hooligans. Josh Ulm recorded several receptions on the way down the field and eventually got the TD pass from Zach Johnston, narrowing the gap to 8-6. Martell Buchanan sprang a big gain on the next play for the score, and he notched the 2pt conversion to make it 16-6 Big Poppa. The Hooligans' girls then arrived, allowing them to play with a 7-on-5 advantage for the rest of the game. Breannea King left the opposing defense "feelin' like P' Diddy" on the next couple of plays as she scored both the 9-pt TD and following 1-pt conversion to tie the game 16-16. The teams traded scores as Jordan Marken notched a TD for Big Poppa and Eric Koester scored for the Hooligans, making the score 24-22 at halftime in favor of Big Poppa. The Hooligans began the second half on offense, and Zach Johnston once again found Josh Ulm for both the TD and 2-pt conversion. In a key turn of events Johnston intercepted a pass on Big Poppa's next drive. On the next series Johnston scrambled when blitzed and lateraled to Karen Greficz allowing her to score a 9-pt girl TD. Big Poppa would not go away, however, as Paul Neumeyer passed to Spencer Behmlander for his second TD of the day making the score 40-30. The Hooligans continued to move the ball well on offense and the two Zachs connected as Zach Milner caught a TD pass from Zach Johnston. After a score by Martell Buchanan to pull Big Poppa within 1 possession, the Hooligans made a gutzy call to go for it on 4th down near their own endzone. The call paid off as Robert Myers caught a deep pass from Johnston to put the team up 52-38. The teams traded scores as Martell Buchanan and Eric Koester both found the endzone again. As time expired Martell Buchanan ran in another long TD and Big Poppa decided to go for the 3-pt conversion. After a few laterals and then a pass Robert Myers stepped up and made an outstanding diving flag grab to end the play and finish the game. Zach Johnston would finish with 7 passing TDs on the day as well as providing vocal leadership and scrambling for extra yards from the QB position. Josh Ulm had a solid 8 receptions and 2 TDs on the day. Zach Milner had a few receptions in the game and had the late TD. Eric Koester had a solid Hooligan debut, showing good hands and scoring 2 touchdowns. Robert Myers had a good Hooligan debut as well, scoring a pair of conversions and a TD. Breannea King recorded a TD and 1-pt conversion on the day and consistently provided an endzone threat. Karen Greficz scored on the lateral from Johnston and consistently blitzed the opposing QB. Captain Mike Russell and Mary Kreutzkamp played several offensive and defensive series as well as providing coaching support from the sidelines. For Big Poppa, Paul Neumeyer took out his frustration at not being mentioned more in the scouting report by throwing for 7 TDs himself on the day. Karl Koenig provided relentless pressure on Hooligans QB Zach Johnston and came up with a few sacks on the day. Martell Buchanan scored 4 TDs and 2 PATs, using his blazing speed to break big gains. Rashad Smith finished with just 1 PAT in the game but also showed blazing speed breaking big gains. Spencer Behmlander picked up where he left off in the 2009 season by scoring 2 TDs. Flag football veteran Jordan Marken had a solid game with a TD and a pair of PATs. Captain West Cunningham took a few reps at QB in the game and often coached his team on the sidelines alongside Hooligans captain Mike Russell. Frisbee Hooligan Andrew Briggs saw time at center in the game and ran good routes. Both teams would also like to give a shoutout to sole ref Andrew Gumm who did the work of about 4 refs by himself. Retired Pigskin Hooligan Ryan Noack was also in attendance towards the end of the game. The victory brings the Hooligans to 1-0 on the season and gives them an early lead in the Mac division. Their next game will be a big one as they will take on Dream Team Plus Krysiak, last year's defending champions, on Sunday at 5pm. The match will be difficult but the team will be buoyed by the presence of collegiate players Cody Cotner and Ethan Anderson who will make their Hooligans debut. Betty Budd and Ali Miller are slated to play their first games for the Hooligans as well. ROLL HOOLIGANS! There will be 6 teams in the league this year, separated into 2 divisions - PC and Mac. The PC Division will consist of The "A", Dream Team Plus Krysiak, and No Name. Your Pigskin Hooligans will compete in the Mac Division, along with I Love It When They Call Us Big Poppa and Falcons N' Stuff. Let's take a closer look at each of these teams:
PC Division Dream Team Plus Krysiak Tom Sperry (captain) Justin Litzner Zeb Hancock Ryan Neu Robbie Lindley Zach Paustian Kevin Krysiak Ashley Chang Erin Dirobbio Analysis: The Hooligans' new rival team, last year's defending champions return most of their roster. Tom Sperry's squad returns 2010 All-Star selection Justin Litzner and a team loaded with speed and athleticism all around. 2009 speedster Zeb Hancock returns to the franchise after a year away from CUAA, adding another weapon. After the departure of Danielle Guss and Ashley Hart in the off-season the team brought in softball duo Ashley Chang and Erin Dirobbio to replace them as their girls. No Name Alex Sypniewski (captain) Aaron Shook Jack Scheel Matt St. Kitts Kyle Adoranti Evan Novak Garrett Keeler Nick Roskelly Dana Ford Kara Fox Analysis: The second team comprised of primarily baseball players will also be competing in the PC Division. Alex Sypniewski's team looks to have height all around with a number of players over 6 feet tall. Past potential Hooligan recruit Garrett Keeler brings QB experience from his 2009 playing days on Zeb Hancock's Shake N' Bake squad. The team will have Dana Ford and Kara Fox from the softball team as their girls. Many of these players will be making their flag football debut. The "A" Team Ryan Scott (captain) Brad Kindred Chandler Sidwell Chase Freeman Jared Janssen Tyler Holloway Adrienne Kanitz Ryne Foster Ashley Hart Danielle Guss Analysis: The final team in the PC division is also loaded with baseball players. Ryan Scott leads a team with plenty of height headed by 6' 4" pitcher Tyler Holloway. The team will go with a trio of volleyball girls, as past champions Ashley Hart and Danielle Guss will bring their experience along with newcomer Adrienne Kanitz. Many of this team's players will be playing their first season of intramural flag football, so we'll have to see how they adjust to the pace of the game. Mac Division Pigskin Hooligans Mike Russell (captain) Zach Johnston Zach Milner Ethan Anderson Eric Koester Robert Myers Ali Miller Josh Ulm Mary Kreutzkamp Cody Cotner Betty Budd Analysis: You're probably already familiar with this year's Pigskin Hooligans squad. Captain Mike Russell returns for a 6th year to lead his team to another shot at their first title. The team brings back 4 returners overall, that being 2010 Most Improved Player Russell, 2010 MVP Zach Johnston, the speedy and dangerous Zach Milner, and 2010 Breakout Player of the Year Josh Ulm. Cody Cotner and Ethan Anderson will bring a "professional" touch as the team's 2 collegiate players, while new signees Robert Myers and Eric Koester also possess great athleticism. The team will field a solid group of all new girls in Ali Miller, Betty Budd, and Mary Kreutzkamp. Falcons N' Stuff Jay Krause (captain) Tyler Cronkight Justin Schultz Pat Gates Leigh McRobbie Kelsie Kaiser Erika Eneix Nick Lyscas Kyle Winningham Cory Briggs Analysis: Jay Krause leads a group comprised primarily of soccer players onto the flag football field this season. The soccer component of the team brings back memories of the old Gamecocks team that won 3 straight titles from 2006-2008. Justin Schultz brings many years of playing experience including a background on the Gamecocks' 2008 title squad. The team's girls will be soccer duo Kelsie Kaiser and Erika Eneix as well as cross country runner Leigh McRobbie. I Love It When They Call Us Big Poppa West Cunningham (captain) Karl Koenig Allie Grafe Martell Buchanan Paul Neumeyer Jim Abrams Brandon Head Adam Rutz Caleb Mims Hannah Genig Analysis: West Cunningham's experienced team rounds out the Mac division. With the absence of a cross-country/track oriented team West was able to pick up speedster seniors Martell Buchanan and Jim Abrams. Adam Rutz brings many years of playing experience as well. They are also the only team besides the Hooligans to use a collegiate football player in Caleb Mims. The team's girls will be Hannah Genig and Allie Grafe. This should be an exciting year for the Hooligans and we're excited to see how the season unfolds! ROLL HOOLIGANS! |
