With Breannea King and Kristina Butcher unavailable for the game, the Hooligans made some last-minute signings as subs for their Thursday matchup with the Big Boyz: Clyde Rhodes, sophomore, 1st yr Hooligan - Clyde subbed in for the Hooligans in Thursday's match. He brings collegiate football experience to the team, having played defensive back on Concordia's varsity football team last year. Clyde has good speed and showed it on both sides of the ball in the game. He hauled in a touchdown and made an interception in his Hooligan debut. Dana Ford, sophomore, 1st yr Hooligan - Dana subbed in for the Hooligans to give the team a second girl in Thursday's game. She brings solid athleticism to the team as a member of Concordia's varsity softball program. Dana faced off against the Hooligans as a member of Prestige Worldwide a couple weeks ago, but she joined her roommate Angela Martin and contributed good defense in her team debut.

Thu, Nov 29 - The Pigskin Hooligans improved to 4-0 on Thursday as a few franchise records were set in a 76-59 win over the Big Boyz. Angela Martin shattered the old female single-season Hooligans TD record by hauling in 4 TDs on the day, giving her 8 TDs on the season to surpass Breannea King and Brittany Davis ' marks of 6 TDs. Her 4 TDs in the game may also be a single-game Hooligan record for any gender. Breannea King had this to say about Angela's achievement: "I'm proud and if I wanted anyone to break it it'd be her!". Brittany Davis could not be reached for comment. Zach Johnston also set a new single-game Hooligan passing record by throwing an incredible 9 TD strikes which gives him 100 for his career with the team. He had this to say about the mark: "Good day to be a Hooligan". The teams traded scores throughout the game but the extra points from Angela's touchdowns helped give the team their needed margin of victory. The Hooligans had a full bench throughout the game as 12 players including a couple late signings appeared for the match. The Hooligans' defense forced a 3-and-out to open the game, and Zach Johnston drove his team down the field on the ensuing possession finding Ryan Noack for an early TD strike. The Big Boyz countered as Dionte Dixon hooked up with Dauntez Oliver for a score. Zach Johnston found Tom Sperry for several good gains down the field and eventually connected with Angela Martin on a mid-range pass to open up a 15-6 lead. The Big Boyz then proceeded to go on a run as Ahmad Trice passed to Johnathan Garcia for a short TD and Dionte Dixon had a pick 6 to give the Big Boyz a 20-15 edge. The Hooligans were unfazed, though, as Justin Litzner made an amazing toe-tapping catch in the back of the endzone to reclaim the lead for his team. New signee Clyde Rhodes came up with a great interception on a deep pass, and Angela Martin hauled in another TD catch to give her team a 34-20 lead at halftime. The Hooligans started the second half on offense and Clyde Rhodes used his speed to score a touchdown for a 40-20 lead. The teams traded scores as Ahmad Trice found Dionte Dixon while Zach Johnston passed to Ryan Noack who broke off a big run for his second TD. Dionte Dixon flipped roles and passed to Ahmad Trice for a touchdown on the next drive, while Zach Johnston fired a short strike to Ethan Anderson to answer. The Big Boyz got a 9-pt TD of their own as Haley Smith caught a short TD pass from Ahmad Trice, and the Hooligans countered as Angela Martin made a record-breaking TD catch to respond. Dionte Dixon used his speed to score a touchdown from Ahmad Trice, but Angela Martin continued her amazing day with another TD catch from Zach Johnston. The Big Boyz adding another TD in garbage time as Mike Ball caught a short pass, however Zach Johnston intercepted a flip back to the QB on the conversion and ran it back for 2. There was more history to be made, however, as on the last play of the game captain Mike Russell took his first ever rep at the QB position. Russell fired a short pass to Zach Johnston and then took a lateral back, making several juke moves and following his blockers to around midfield. The final score would read 76-59 in favor of the Hooligans. For the Hooligans, Zach Johnston tossed an astounding 9 passing TDs on the day along with several good runs from the QB position and his conversion return for 2. Equally incredible was Angela Martin locking up her place in Hooligan history with 4 receiving TDs and a few other catches. Ryan Noack had a solid day showing good catch-and-run ability with 2 TDs in the game. Tom Sperry had a ton of catches in the game that went for good yardage, finishing with 2 PATs. Justin Litzner had several receptions in the game along with his great toe-tapping TD catch. Clyde Rhodes had a good performance as a sub catching a TD and making an interception. Ethan Anderson showed good hands with a touchdown and PAT in the match. Zach Milner had a good return to the Hooligans playing solid defense. Josh Ulm had a good return to the Hooligans, making several receptions and picking up good yardage. Dorian Lancaster showed his speed in the game on a couple catches. Captain Mike Russell is now 1-1 for his career at QB and can boast a perfect passer rating. Dana Ford was a late signing for the Hooligans and primarily saw time on defense. For the Big Boyz, Dionte Dixon threw 2 TDs, caught 2 TDs, had a pick 6, and scored a PAT. Ahmad Trice passed for 4 TDs and caught one in the game as well as running for a PAT. Haley Smith made an impact in the game scoring a 9-pt TD for her team. Mike Ball had a late TD in the game along with 2 PATs. Johnathan Garcia had a short TD catch early in the game. Dauntez Oliver notched an early PAT on the first touchdown. Humphrey Ihejirikah had a couple catches in the game. SportsCenter star Kortni Elsworth was at the game to cheer on the Hooligans. The win moves the team to 4-0 on the season and guarantees them the #1 seed heading into the playoffs next week. The #1 seed will be the Hooligans' first top ranking since the 2009 season when the team finished 8-2. The team is scheduled to be in action next against Ruthless on Sunday at 3pm to finish the regular season, though that game may be iffy depending on Ruthless' availability. Josh Ulm, senior, 3rd yr Hooligan - Josh returns to the Hooligans midway through the season after a brief stint away from the team. Originally he was forced to make a separate team due to lack of teams in the league, but now he will return for the championship run. Josh continues to near the career TD record for the Hooligans, notching 16 for his career and needing 4 to tie Max Joseph's record of 20. He has consistently shown good hands and solid route running which have made him a key asset for the team. Josh's Ohio State Buckeyes recently completed an undefeated season by beating Michigan, and he will look to help the Hooligans go undefeated over the stretch run. The victory brings the team's record to 3-0 and gives them the #1 rank in the standings heading into the Thanksgiving break! The disbanding of Luke Dorm and Posse also opens up the ability for Josh Ulm to return to the Hooligans, look for a signing note on that in the coming days. There will be 2 more regular season games following the break, they will be added to the Schedule tab shortly...ROLL HOOLIGANS! Wed, Nov 15 - The Pigskin Hooligans played their second game of the season Wednesday, facing off against Team Ratio. The match was close early, but the final ratio was squarely in the Hooligans' favor as they won by almost a 2-1 margin with a final score of 47-18. The team played solid defense and continued to move the ball well offensively. Several players continue to inch toward milestones as Angela Martin is only 2 TDs away from tying the Hooligans' single-season female TD record while Zach Johnston continues to approach his 100th career TD pass as a Hooligan. The Hooligans won the coin toss and captain Mike Russell opted to select defense first. The team continued to play good defense as they gave up a first down but stopped Team Ratio short of the endzone. The Hooligans took over on downs and moved the ball well, however Kortney Loar managed to snatch Zach Johnston's flag on a 4th down run to stop her coach short of the endzone. Team Ratio would strike first as Ryan Scott hooked up with Karl Schneider on a deep pass, but Dorian Lancaster intercepted the conversion attempt to keep the score 6-0. Zach Johnston took the reins of the offense again and Angela Martin made a great catch in traffic for a 9-6 lead. The teams traded scores again before half as Ryan Scott connected with Codey Harrison while Zach Johnston found Tom Sperry at the side of the endzone, giving the team a 15-12 halftime lead. It was in the second half that the Hooligans' offense would explode, as they started with the ball and Zach Johnston cranked off a huge run from the QB position. With the team close to the endzone Mike Russell caught a short TD pass off a curl route and proceeded to do a Victor Cruz-style salsa in the endzone. After another defensive stop Zach Johnston would again find Angela Martin for her 2nd TD of the game, opening up a 31-12 lead. Team Ratio's offense would stall yet again as Angela Martin helped make a pass breakup in the endzone. The Hooligans drove down the field on the next series and Kristina Butcher slipped through a couple defenders after taking a short pass for her first touchdown on the season. Team Ratio would be heard from again as Codey Harrison took a lateral for a touchdown, but Zach Johnston would fire a deep pass near the end to Justin Litzner who nicely stayed in bounds for the score. The final result was a 47-18 decision in favor of the Hooligans. For the Hooligans, Zach Johnston turned in a solid performance with 6 pass TDs to go with some big runs and flag grabs. Sun, Nov 11 - The Pigskin Hooligans opened their season with a marquee matchup against Prestige Worldwide in nice, sunny weather on Sunday. The game was a measuring stick for both teams as most experts predict one of these two to take home the championship. While the contest was close and featured several lead changes, the Hooligans eventually pulled away with a 47-33 victory to gain a huge early win and improve to 1-0 on the young season. The Hooligans won the opening coin toss and elected to play defense first. The game was a defensive affair early on as both teams turned in goal-line stands which left the opposing offense starting around the 1-yard line. Team Prestige would strike first as QB Jack Scheel hooked up with Jeremy Maas for a TD with Zeb Hancock adding a 2-pt conversion catch for an 8-0 lead. The Hooligans got their offense in gear, however, as Zach Johnston hooked up with Angela Martin on a deep pass for a first down and again for a short TD pass. Ryan Noack would add a 1-pt conversion catch, and the Hooligans gained momentum as Kristina Butcher intercepted a Jack Scheel pass around midfield to give her team the ball. The team would capitalize as Ryan Noack took a short pass and literally ran through a defensive player on his way to the endzone. Team Prestige would add one more score before the half as Zeb Hancock used his speed to break a big gain, but at halftime the score was 16-14 in favor of the Hooligans. The Hooligans began the second half with the ball on offense and systematically worked down the field. Justin Litzner cranked off a huge gain but smartly waited for Angela Martin to catch up and lateraled to her for a 9-pt touchdown. Angela Martin made an impact in the game as she picked off a Zach Paustian pass, but Brad Kindred gained momentum for his team by forcing a fumble by captain Mike Russell. The play would prove huge as Kindred would then switch to QB and passed to Jeremy Maas who caught his 2nd TD of the game. Zeb Hancock then picked off a Zach Johnston pass on the next series and caught a TD pass from Brad Kindred to give his team a narrow 27-26 lead. The Hooligans would rebound, however, as Ethan Anderson made an impact by catching and running for a decent-length TD and a Tom Sperry 2-pt conversion gave them a 34-27 edge. A "pick 6" by Ryan Noack on the next series really cemented the victory as the score then moved to 40-27, and Justin Litzner added an interception on the next series. Tom Sperry caught a touchdown on the right side of the endzone off a nicely thrown ball from Zach Johnston, and Zeb Hancock added a garbage time TD at the end of the game for Prestige Worldwide. The game ended after an unsuccessful 2-pt conversion try and the Hooligans triumphed 47-33. For the Hooligans, Zach Johnston finished with 4 passing TDs on the day and helped out defensively with 2 sacks. Ryan Noack turned in a great game with 2 TDs, an interception, a PAT, a pass breakup, and good defensive pressure with blitzes. Angela Martin had a solid Hooligans debut as she had 2 TDs to go along with an interception and a solid pass breakup on softball teammate Dana Ford. Tom Sperry notched a TD to go along with 2 PATs and several receptions for the game. Ethan Anderson notched a receiving TD and recorded many flag grabs on defense. Justin Litzner had an interception and a PAT as well as smartly lateraling to Angela Martin for the 9-pt TD. Captain Mike Russell finished with 2 receptions and 2 flag grabs on the day, most notably accidentally "hit sticking" Evan Novak while jabbing for the flag. Kristina Butcher notched an interception in her debut and played solid defense. For Prestige Worldwide, captain Zeb Hancock led his team on the day with 3 TDs to go along with 2 PATs and an INT. Rookie Jeremy Maas showed his speed and hauled in 2 TD passes on the day. Brad Kindred took about half the QB reps and tossed 3 TD passes along with forcing a fumble. Jack Scheel saw the QB reps for the first half, throwing 2 TD strikes. Evan Novak had several receptions in the game and saw time at center. Dana Ford was a late signing and she had a decent run up the right side. 2011 All-Star Zach Paustian had a fairly quiet game by his standars but he handled the ball and few times and saw some time at QB. The game was reffed by Garrett Keeler and Mikey Conant. With the victory the Hooligans stand at 1-0 on the season and move to 27-26-1 all-time. The rest of the schedule is still uncertain, we expect to receive word from Coach Klem on the rest of the schedule early this week. A few interesting historical notes: the game was the first Sunday opener in Pigskin Hooligans history. It was also the latest opener in Hooligans history, supplanting the Nov 7 opener in 2007. The team announced one more signing before the season starts, filling a vacant roster spot: Ryan Noack, married housing, 5th yr Hooligan - Ryan Noack returns to the Pigskin Hooligans for an astounding 5th year. He is eligible to play this year due to living on campus in married housing with his new wife and Hooligan fan Chelsea Noack. Ryan has been a solid player for the Hooligans over his playing career, using his 6' 5" height to make plays on both sides of the ball. He brings an athletic background having been a 4-year member of Concordia's baseball team as a dominant pitcher. When asked for a signing quote, Ryan joked: "When Mike decides to give me his speech every year, I ask him if I sign will you please stop..." but added "Can't wait to see Mike Russell suit up in his Hooligans jersey!" You can catch Ryan and the rest of the Hooligans, including captain Mike Russell in said brand new Hooligans jersey, in action tomorrow, Sunday, at 4:00 as the team opens with a marquee matchup against Team Prestige! The weather should be great, ROLL HOOLIGANS!
With the season just around the corner and the 2012 Pigskin Hooligan squad assembled, lets take a look at the team for this upcoming season: Mike Russell (captain), grad student (MBA 1st yr), 7th yr Hooligan - Captain Mike Russell returns to the helm of the Hooligans for his 7th year with the team and 6th as captain. He has continued to add to his legacy over the years, notching his first career postseason TD in the championship game last season. Mike will be sporting a brand new jersey this year, seen in his picture, which he received as a gift from his teammates last year. He had this to say about returning to the Hooligans: "I am proud to lead this great franchise on another championship run. It will be great to finally get to wear the jersey this year and I hope to do everything I can to lead us to our first title in franchise history!" Zach Johnston, staff, 4th yr Hooligan - Zach comes back to the Hooligans for his 4th season. Hooligan fans waited with baited breath all summer on his status during the offseason, but luckily Concordia hired him as a full-time staff member making him eligible to play. Zach has won the team's MVP award the last 2 seasons for his stalwart play both at the QB position and as a leader on defense. His quickness and agility make him a key part of the team every year and he will continue to be counted on to make clutch plays. Zach had this to say about returning to the Hooligans: "It's good to be back." Zach Milner, junior, 3rd yr Hooligan - Zach comes back to the Hooligans for his 3rd season. He won the team's Most Improved Player award last year as well as earning the Silver Play of the Year for his game-tying TD catch against Falcons N' Stuff. Zach's agility has consistently made him in asset to the team on both sides of the ball and will be counted on again this year to shut down some of the opposition's fastest players. Zach had this to say about re-signing with the Hooligans: "Happy to be back and cannot wait to bring this team some wins!" Ethan Anderson, junior, 2nd yr Hooligan - Ethan returns to the team for his 2nd season. He is a linebacker on Concordia's football team, making him one of the two allowed "pro players", and he also competes in track and field. Ethan won the team's Defensive Player of the Year award last year for his solid play. He also showed good hands offensively, notching 3 TDs and showing a wide array of spin moves. Ethan will anchor the defense again this year using his skills honed as an all-State linebacker in high school. Dorian Lancaster, sophomore, 1st yr Hooligan - Dorian will be making his Pigskin Hooligan debut in 2012. He was briefly on Concordia's football team as a running back, making him the Hooligans' 2nd allowed "pro player". Dorian has also competed in track and field for Concordia and he still owns the school record in the long jump set back in 2010 (21 feet, 3.5 inches). He will provide speed for the team which will be an asset on both sides of the ball. Dorian had this to say about joining the Hooligans: "I'm very happy to be a part of this team and to play with my ex-suite mate Tom Sperry and the rest of the team. We guaranteein' a championship!". Justin Litzner, senior, 1st yr Hooligan - Justin joins the Hooligans for his first year on the team. He brings solid athleticism as a 4-year member of Concordia's baseball team. Justin is no stranger to the flag football field, having won two championships including one last season with Dream Team Plus Krysiak over the Hooligans. He will be a solid contributor and both sides of the ball and will likely have a solid rapport with former baseball teammate Zach Johnston. Tom Sperry, senior, 1st yr Hooligan - Sperry will be a newcomer to the Hooligans in 2012. He also brings solid athleticism to the team as a 4-year member of Concordia's baseball team. Sperry has faced the Hooligans for the past 3 years going all the way back to 2009, but he joins up with them this year in pursuit of a championship. His speed will help on both offense and defense, and he will also have a good connection with former baseball teammate Zach Johnston. Angela Martin, sophomore, 2nd yr Hooligan - Angela comes back to the Hooligans after helping to collect a forfeit victory last season. She is a member of Concordia's softball team, recently finishing a standout freshman year seeing time primarily in the infield. Angela was recently recorded as having the fastest time around the bases on this year's softball team. Her speed and powderpuff background will be key assets to the team this season. Breannea King, senior (5th yr), 2nd yr Hooligan - Breannea returns to the Hooligans for her second season. She won the team's Brittany Davis Memorial Award last season after leading the team with 6 TDs and tying Brittany Davis' old record. Breannea won't be as much of a "secret weapon" this year as teams will likely gameplan for her pass-catching ability in the endzone. Her athletic background as a 4-year member of Concordia's softball team will continue to help the Hooligans. Kristina Butcher, senior, 1st yr Hooligan - Kristina rounds out this year's Hooligans team as a newcomer. She is going into her second year on Concordia's softball team after recording a solid season at first base. Kristina brings a football background to the Hooligans, having played against boys in both elementary school and a flag football league growing up. Her 5' 9" height will likely make her a key target for TD passes in the endzone. Angela Martin and Kristina Butcher issued a joint signing quote: "Ever since we were little kids we felt it was our destiny to be a Pigskin Hooligan. Playing with Coach Zach is an honor, to say the least. Coach Zach had this to say about us: 'Ange and AZ are great athletes with great character on and off the field, it's an honor to play side by side next to them. With them on the team it's a given to win the title'". The Pigskin Hooligans are very happy with this year's 2012 squad! A championship is certainly a realistic goal as the Hooligans will once again be among the league's elite. There is also currently an open spot on the Hooligans' roster as 2-time All-Star Josh Ulm chose to make his own team this year to get the league to 4 teams. Both sides are disappointed at the need for a split but the Hooligans are happy for Josh's selfless act for the good of the league so the season can get rolling. The schedule is still uncertain but we will keep you updated as we receive information...ROLL HOOLIGANS!
