Sun, Nov. 7 - The Hooligans fell in a wild one on Sunday in an offensive showdown to the Gamecocks. Availability issues yet again plagued the Hooligans, though they had enough to play 7-vs-7. The Hooligans moved methodically down the field on their opening drive, and QB Zach Johnston took advantage of the ability to run when blitzed to scamper in for the opening TD. However, the Gamecocks quickly moved the ball down the field to even the score, and a TD catch by Ashley Hart on their next series gave the Gamecocks a 9-pt girl TD and a 16-7 lead. After another Gamecocks score the Hooligans executed an impressive 2-minute offense, getting out of bounds to stop the clock when necessary and finishing with a TD strike to Steve Lestock. But with 23 seconds to go in the half, one deep pass gave the Gamecocks another TD before the half ended.
Thuy Phan continued her breakout season for the Hooligans by recording 2 TDs on the day, an 18-point contribution. Steve Lestock also contributed several touchdowns on the day as well. The speedy duo of Zach Johnston and Zach Milner sprang big gains throughout the day, and the run/pass option caused some confusion for the Gamecocks defense. Sarah Mowery and Josh Ulm had a couple key catches, and captain Mike Russell had one reception and a flag grab on the day. The Hooligans' offense kept the game within reach until the very end, but defensive breakdowns allowed the Gamecocks to continue to move down the field and maintain their lead. Zach Johnston nearly picked off an ill-advised Gamecocks pass near the end of the game that could have given the Hooligans one more shot to tie the game, but the pass fell incomplete. The loss brings the team to 1-2 on the game, but they still showed plenty of potential. The Hooligans' next game will be Tuesday at 4pm vs Jesse Caddell's Rajun Cajun Hot Stixxx, and they will also play on Wednesday at 5pm against Bri Sonnenberg's Ninety-Fives. Come out and cheer on the Hooligans!
