![]() May 15, 2022 - Concordia University Ann Arbor held graduation ceremonies this May along with a December graduation ceremony in 2021. The Pigskin Hooligans had 3 former team members complete their degrees after many years of hard work in the classroom. Congratulations to these graduates: Cassie graduates from Concordia with a degree in Psychology. She played in 1 game during the 2018 season, earning the Gold Play of the Year for her touchdown against the Charlestown Chiefs. Cassie took a short pass for a long TD and helped to clinch a 53-42 victory while also adding a PAT. Darryl graduates from Concordia with a degree in General Business. He played for the Hooligans in 2019, subbing into a 76-42 victory over The Football Team. Darryl showed great hands and speed in the contest, catching a PAT while making some big gains down the field. Harrison graduates from Concordia with a degree in Sport and Entertainment Business. He signed with the Hooligans for the 2019 season, having a prolific year at the quarterback position. Harrison passed for 33 touchdowns on the year, tying the single-season record set by Hooligans legend Zach Johnston. He also set a new single-game record with 11 pass TDs against the #3 White Choppas in the playoffs. Harrison showed the ability to run from the QB position as well, scrambling for 2 TDs and 2 PATs while making 2 defensive INTs on the year.

![]() May 9, 2021 - Concordia University Ann Arbor held 2 graduation ceremonies this past Sunday, celebrating the accomplishments of another graduating class. The Pigskin Hooligans organization was well-represented with 6 former players among the graduates: Blake graduates from Concordia with a degree in Justice and Public Policy. He turned in a storied career in his time with the Hooligans, winning 4 awards in the 2017 season when he was named the team MVP. Blake made a huge impact on both sides of the ball, making critical receptions on offense while notching 3 interceptions on defense and accumulating many flag grabs. While he was limited by injuries later in his career, he still contributed to the 2018 and 2019 title runs. Hunter graduates from Concordia with a degree in Marketing. He played for the Hooligans in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons, making his mark on the record books. Hunter set the franchise single-game touchdown record with 6 TDs in the team's 72-48 victory over the White Choppas in 2019. He has recorded 12 touchdowns overall along with 3 PATs and 2 defensive interceptions. Josh graduates from Concordia with a degree in Sport & Entertainment Business. He served a sub for the Hooligans in 2019, competing in 2 games. Josh recorded 3 touchdowns, 2 PATs, and an interception in a 76-42 win over The Football Team, earning Bronze Play of the Year after he scooped up a Kordell McNeal forced fumble and scored. He added a TD and an INT later against the White Choppas. Matt graduates from Concordia with his BSN degree in the challenging field of Nursing. He played one year for the Hooligans, contributing to the 2016 championship season that saw the team go a perfect 3-0. Matt showed versatility at multiple positions, passing for 5 touchdowns while hauling in 4 receiving TDs and 3 PATs. He also played solid defense and notched an interception. Perry graduates from Concordia with his degree in General Business. He signed with the Hooligans in the playoffs of the 2019 season, played 2 games in the team's championship run. Perry performed well as a receiver, catching a touchdown in both the team's semifinal victory and championship loss while adding a PAT. RJ graduates from Concordia with a degree in Biology. He played for the Hooligans in both 2018 and 2019, helping the team make a championship game appearance both years. RJ played multiple positions for the Hooligans, throwing for 8 touchdowns while also recording 4 receiving touchdowns and 6 PATs. He contributed on defense with one career interception.

The Hooligans had one representative among the graduates: Alissa graduates with her RN degree as a registered nurse. She played one game in the 2017 season, competing in the Hooligans' season opener against the Wamp Rats. Alissa contributed a solid flag grab to the team on defense before sustaining a season-ending finger injury on the play.

Captain Mike Russell has been working tirelessly during the pandemic to make a seamless transition to keep Hooligan fans in the loop with the team. The Hooligans had 4 representatives in the class of 2020, receiving their degrees after many years of hard work in the classroom. Congratulations to the Hooligan graduates: Amber graduates from Concordia with a degree in elementary education. She competed for the Hooligans back in 2018, seeing action in the team’s 84-64 victory over the Wamp Rats during the regular season. Amber made an impact in that contest, making a reception and using her cross country/track background to run for extra yardage. She also contributed on defense with flag grabs. Kordell graduates from Concordia as a member of the Pre-Dentistry program. He competed for the Hooligans in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons. As a member of CUAA football, Kordell made a big impact with his skills scoring 5 TDs and 6 PATs on offense. On the other side of the ball, he received Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 after multiple forced fumbles and solid flag grabs. Perry graduates from Concordia with a degree in General Business. He played for the Hooligans in 2019, serving as a critical sub for the team’s playoff run on a cold Sunday afternoon. Against the White Choppas, Perry hauled in a touchdown and a PAT to help the team in its 82-61 victory. In the championship, he tacked on another touchdown against the Black Slicers to aid the team’s efforts. Ryan graduates from Concordia with a double-major in both Psychology and Justice and Public Policy. He competed for the Hooligans in the 2019 season, making an impact in another championship run. Ryan’s track star speed made him an agile wide receiver, leading him to haul in 2 touchdowns and a PAT on the year. His quickness also made him a solid defender as well.

She received a Service Award in the field while also being named as the student speaker for the pinning ceremony. On the field, Kimmy earned the team’s Brittany Davis Memorial Award in 2019, given to the team’s most outstanding female player. She was a key part of the Hooligans’ playoff push, catching a touchdown and a PAT while blitzing the opposing quarterback effectively and making a sack.

The final look at this past season comes with the announcement of the 2019 Hooligan Awards. Congratulations to the winners (all interceptions listed in the stats are on defense): Harry Kinney wins the Team MVP award after his standout rookie year with the Hooligans in 2019. The freshman quarterback broke the legendary Zach Johnston’s single-game pass TD record with 11 and tied his single-season record with 33 on the year. Harry also showed the ability to scramble out of the pocket with 2 rush TDs and 2 PATs while making an impact on defense with two interceptions. Harry also receives the team’s Breakout Player of the Year Award, given to the team’s most outstanding newcomer. Hunter Lastacy wins the Individual Performance of the Year Award in 2019. He receives the honor after breaking the franchise single-game record with 6 touchdowns in the team’s season-opening 72-48 win over the White Choppas. Hunter also added 2 defensive interceptions in the game as well. Hunter also receives the Most Improved Player award after quintupling his touchdown production from the 2018 season. Kimmy receives this year’s Brittany Davis Memorial Award, given to the team’s most outstanding female player. She was a critical part of the team’s playoff push, playing two complete games in the semifinals and finals. Kimmy caught a touchdown and a PAT on offense while blitzing the quarterback well and coming up with a sack on defense. Louis receives this year’s Defensive Player of the Year Award for the 2019 season. He made an impact with his blazing speed honed as both a cross country and track/field athlete for CUAA. Louis was a key factor on defense with his blitzes on the quarterback, hurrying a number of passes and forcing some bad throws that led to turnovers on downs. Mikey receives the Sub of the Year Award for his efforts in 2019. He was a key signing for the team’s playoff run, appearing in both the team’s semifinal victory and championship loss. Mikey showed good speed and solid hands with a total of 5 touchdowns and 2 PATs in the playoffs. Blake receives the Heart of the Hooligans award this year, given to a player who exemplifies the spirit of the team and/or sustains an injury during the year. While he was present for every game this season, Blake was unable to play in the championship game after spraining his finger in the team’s semifinal victory over the White Choppas. Finally, here are the top three plays of the 2019 season: ![]() Gold Play - Harry Kinney’s rush for a touchdown, 57-63 loss to #1 Black Slicers in the championship game - While Harry made a name for himself with his passing touchdowns this year, it was a play with his legs that earns him the year’s Gold Play. With the Hooligans starting around their own 10-yard line, he eluded a blitz and took off running. Harry made multiple jukes and ran down the left sideline for a touchdown, giving the team a 40-36 lead in the second half. ![]() Silver Play - Blake Dean’s interception, 82-61 win over #3 White Choppas in the playoffs - The Hooligans found themselves locked in a close game with the White Choppas in their semifinal playoff matchup. Trailing 16-14 early in the contest, Choppas quarterback Ethan Vosburg fired a deep pass to the endzone. After multiple deflections, Blake was able to come up with the ball and secure the interception to force a key turnover. ![]() Bronze Play - Kordell McNeal’s forced fumble leading to a Josh Course touchdown, 76-42 win over The Football Team - After trailing 12-0 early in the game, the Hooligans began to make a comeback behind a defensive surge. Kordell has shown the ability to force fumbles in the past, and after a short pass was caught by The Football Team he was able to swipe the ball loose. The fumble was scooped up by Josh Course and returned to the endzone for a touchdown. Congratulations to all of the 2019 Hooligan Award recipients! This concludes our coverage of the 2019 season. The team finished with a 4-2 overall record, falling in a close title game to the #1 seed Black Slicers. A franchise record total of 19 players played in at least one game throughout the year. The league featured a total of 5 teams this year with all teams qualifying for the playoffs. The Hooligans earned the #2 seed after compiling a 3-1 regular season record. First, let’s take a game-by-game look at the team’s results this year: The Hooligans opened their season with a rematch of last year’s championship game against the White Choppas. Both teams traded early scores, but the Hooligans surged ahead in the second half behind a franchise single-game record 6 TDs from Hunter Lastacy. The Hooligans moved their record to 2-0 in their second game of the year against The Football Team. After falling behind 12-0 early in the contest, the team rallied to take a big lead in the second half. The Hooligan defense forced 5 turnovers in the win. On Sunday morning, the Hooligans received word that Special K was unable to field a team for their scheduled match. After receiving the forfeit win, Mike Russell was officially credited with his 50th win as Hooligans captain. After receiving news of the Special K forfeit, the Hooligans concluded their regular season with a rescheduled rematch against the White Choppas. The Choppas jumped out to an early 22-0 lead and were able to hold on for the rest of the game, handing the team its first loss. The Hooligans received the #2 seed in the playoffs and played a familiar opponent in the first round, the #3 seed White Choppas. The team began to pull away towards the end of the 1st half, leading 38-22 at halftime. Harry Kinney set a new franchise single-game record with 11 pass TDs in the win, sending the team to the championship game. The Hooligans made their second straight appearance in the championship game against the #1 overall seed Black Slicers. The match lived up to the hype with the Hooligans holding a narrow 26-22 lead at halftime. It looked as though the game might come down to which team had the ball last, but a pair of late interceptions pushed the Slicers ahead and helped them secure the title. The Hooligans looked to spoil the undefeated season of the #1 seed Black Slicers who entered the game a perfect 4-0. While both teams traded touchdowns throughout the contest, a pair of late interceptions from Adam Purdy lifted the Slicers to a 63-57 championship win. The Slicers won the coin toss and elected to take defense first. Harry Kinney led a successful opening drive, connecting with Mikey Melcher in the endzone. Preston Sherman started at QB for the Slicers, running for several large gains. After taking a backwards pass, Joe Tany threw to Matthew Botti for a touchdown to tie the game 6-6. Harry Kinney found Mikey Melcher again for a touchdown with RJ Bortle adding a 2-pt conversion. Preston Sherman countered by rolling out of the pocket and firing deep to Matthew Botti for a score. On the next series Kimmy Thompson took a short pass and nearly scored, setting the team up outside the endzone. Harry Kinney found Ryan Bailey in the back of the endzone for a touchdown, but Matthew Botti intercepted the 2-pt conversion and returned it for 2 points. The Slicers took a 22-20 lead after Preston Sherman connected with Joe Tany for both a touchdown and 2-pt conversion. The Hooligans drove down the field in the final minute of the 1st half and Harry Kinney connected with Mikey Melcher in the back of the endzone for his 3rd TD of the day. The Hooligans led 26-22 at halftime. The Slicers started the 2nd half with the ball and Preston Sherman escaped pressure and found Matthew Botti for a touchdown to reclaim the lead. Harry Kinney responded by avoiding the blitz and connecting with Perry Melcher for a touchdown. After a deep catch by Matthew Botti, Preston Sherman ran in a touchdown with Adam Purdy adding the 2-pt PAT. Harry Kinney responded with a highlight-reel run from the quarterback position, juking multiple defenders and blazing his way into the endzone for a 40-36 lead. Preston Sherman found Joe Tany for a touchdown as the lead continued to change hands. A turning point in the 2nd half came when Adam Purdy came up with a big interception for the Slicers. Preston Sherman took advantage of the short field and found Matthew Botti in the endzone. Adam Purdy made another critical play for the Slicers with a “pick 6”, giving his team a two-possession lead with a 56-40 advantage. The Hooligans still kept fighting in the final minutes as Harry Kinney ran for a touchdown and 2-pt conversion. Preston Sherman sealed the game with another successful scoring drive, finding Adam Purdy for a touchdown. The Hooligans drove down the field in the final minute and Kimmy Thompson caught a short pass for a touchdown, giving the team a 9-pt female score. The Slicers were able to kneel out the remainder of the clock and handed the Hooligans a 63-57 loss in a hard-fought game. Trooper Hunter was at the game to cheer on the Hooligans. The team concludes their season 4-2 overall and the team still has many accomplishments to be proud of. Several franchise milestones and records were broken this year, and the team has many key young players with a promising future to build around. The Hooligans pulled away late in the 1st half and were able to continue converting offensively to secure an 82-61 victory and a berth in the championship game. Harry Kinney broke the legendary Zach Johnston’s single-game record with 11 pass TDs. The White Choppas won the opening coin toss and elected to begin on offense. Kimmy Thompson made solid blitzes with heavy pressure on the quarterback, but Ethan Vosburg escaped on 4th down and ran for a touchdown. Harry Kinney returned to the quarterback position and found the speedy Gabe Farr for a touchdown with Mikey Melcher snagging a 2-pt PAT. Ethan Vosburg connected with Zack Williams on the next series with Chris Lowe adding the 2-pt PAT. Harry Kinney led another scoring drive, firing over the middle to Perry Melcher for a touchdown. Kimmy Thompson continued to pressure the quarterback and came up with a big sack. After a deep pass to the endzone, Blake Dean came up with a huge interception in the endzone off a deflection. The Hooligans capitalized on the turnover as Harry Kinney needed just one play to find Gabe Farr deep for a touchdown and a 30-16 lead. The White Choppas continued to convert as Ethan Vosburg escaped pressure and found Grant Steinborn for a touchdown. The Hooligans stopped the 2-pt conversion after Ryan Bailey denied the pass. The team converted in the final minute of the half as Harry Kinney found Ryan Bailey in the endzone with Layne Pries adding the PAT. The Hooligans led 38-22 at halftime. The Hooligans began the 2nd half on offense, but Elijah Abenth made a fumble recovery to stall the drive. However, Harry Kinney made an impact on defense with an interception to start the team back on offense. Kinney led another scoring drive with Blake Dean catching a pass in the back of the endzone and Kimmy Thompson adding the PAT. The Hooligans continued to respond as Layne Pries jumped high to catch a pass in traffic and blazed down the field for a touchdown. The Hooligans responded with a historic drive as Harry Kinney made his record-breaking 10th touchdown pass in the game to Mikey Melcher. In the final minutes Ethan Vosburg rushed for his third touchdown of the day and then scored on a lateral off a 3-pt conversion. The Hooligans drove down the field for one more touchdown with Harry Kinney connecting with RJ Bortle in the endzone. As time expired, the Hooligans claimed an 82-61 win. The Hooligans improved to 4-1 with the victory and advanced to face the #1 seed Black Slicers in the championship game.

The Hooligans came into the contest 3-0, winning the teams’ prior meeting 72-48, while the Choppas entered 1-2. While the Hooligans began to find an offensive rhythm in the 2nd half, a strong defensive start to the game lifted the White Choppas to a 60-40 victory behind 6 total turnovers. The Hooligans won the opening coin toss and elected to begin on defense. Ethan Vosburg led a scoring drive on the White Choppas’ first possession, connecting with Grant Steinborn for a touchdown. Chris Lowe gave the Choppas early control of the game with back-to-back interception returns for touchdowns, putting the Hooligans in a 22-0 deficit. Blake Dean checked into the game around the 15-minute mark, proving a spark on offense. RJ Bortle was able to lead a scoring drive for the Hooligans’ first touchdown, finding Layne Pries on the left side of the endzone to break the shutout. Grant Steinborn added his second touchdown on the next series, reaching the ball over the goal line. RJ Bortle was able to make a sack on the 2-pt conversion attempt to deny the PAT. The team forced 5 total turnovers and pulled away for a 72-46 victory. With both teams featuring a large roster, the teams played 8-on-8 throughout the game. The Football Team won the opening coin toss and started on offense. Alex Phillips started at QB and led a scoring drive finding Tommy Senne in the endzone. Carter Richardson came up with an interception off a deflection and then caught a touchdown pass for a 12-0 lead. The Hooligans converted on their next possession when Harry Kinney lofted a high pass to Hunter Lastacy with Josh Course adding a 2-pt conversion. The defense forced a turnover on downs as Louis Schimmel blitzed the quarterback well and Kordell McNeal made a key pass breakup. The Pigskin Hooligans kick off their 14th season Sunday, October 20 at 3:30 against the White Choppas in Cardinal Stadium, following the conclusion of the CUAA reserve football game. The franchise will be looking to reach a big milestone this year as they pursue the 4th title in team history. The league is expected to feature a total of 4 teams this year. Besides the Hooligans, Ryan Abenth’s defending champion White Choppas return to the league after completing a perfect 6-0 campaign last year. Vann Acker created the Black Slicers after striking out as a free agent following the Choppas’ championship run. Finally, Tristan Waechter leads a Special K squad full of talented CUAA hockey players. She brings great athleticism to the team, having retired from stints with both the CUAA women’s basketball and track and field teams. Alex’s running ability will make her a key target at wide receiver for 9-point female touchdowns as well as an excellent defender. ![]() Amber Streeter - Amber returns for her 2nd year with the Hooligans in 2019. She brings an athletic background to the team as she is currently in her senior year with CUAA cross country and track and field. He brings an athletic background after competing for both CUAA baseball and football, earning 1st Team MSFA Mideast honors as an offensive lineman. Darricle subbed into the championship game last year, running solid routes and hauling in a 2-pt conversion. ![]() Greyson Papp - Greyson will be another new signing to the Hooligans in the 2019 season. She brings an athletic background to the team as a member of CUAA women’s lacrosse. Greyson shows tremendous speed on the lacrosse field, weaving and juking through defenders while powering to the net. She will be an important part of the team’s offense this year. ![]() Harry Kinney - Harry will be in his first year with the Hooligans in 2019, joining roommate RJ Bortle. He brings an athletic background to the team having played high school football. Harry won a state title with Mason High School in 2014, so he brings the knowledge of what it takes to make a championship run. ![]() Henry Capers - Henry will be coming back to the Hooligans for his 2nd season in 2019. He brings an athletic background after competing for the CUAA baseball team. Henry saw time at quarterback when he subbed into the championship game last year, throwing for 3 TDs in the first half of the game. He will continue to make an impact at multiple positions. ![]() Hunter Lastacy - Hunter returns for his 2nd season with the Hooligans in 2019. He brings college football experience as he retired after his freshman year with CUAA football. Hunter proved to be a tall and dependable receiving target in the redzone last season, snagging 2 TDs and 3 PATs on the year. He also saw some time at quarterback, throwing for 2 TDs. Hunter had this to say on returning to the team: “GO Hooligans!” ![]() Kimmy Thompson - Kimmy will be playing in her first year with the Hooligans in 2019. She brings an athletic background after recently completing a 3-year career with CUAA women’s lacrosse. Kimmy was a tireless runner on the lacrosse field, showing determination as a defender. She will form a dynamic duo with her boyfriend Ryan Bailey on the team this season. Kimmy had this to say on signing: “I’m just happy to be part of the team!” ![]() Kit Martin - Kit comes back to the Hooligans for his 2nd year after a standout rookie campaign. He brings collegiate experience after recently retiring from a 2-year career as a defensive back with CUAA football. Kit won the team’s MVP and Breakout Player of the Year awards last season after leading the team with 11 TDs and 7 PATs. His speed will make him an important asset once again on both sides of the ball. ![]() Kordell McNeal - Kordell will be another key returner in his 2nd year as a Hooligan in 2019. He brings collegiate football experience to the team as he is currently in his senior season as a defensive back with CUAA football. Kordell won the team’s Defensive Player of the Year award last season after forcing several fumbles and pulling many flags. Offensively, he finished with 3 TDs and 6 PATs last season. ![]() Layne Pries - Layne will be competing in his first year as a Hooligan in 2019. He brings athleticism to the team as a current member of CUAA men’s golf. Layne played high school football and brings a strong knowledge and background in the game. He will be another integral part of the team’s success this year. ![]() Leah Refenes - Leah will be entering her first year as a Hooligan in the 2019 season. She brings an athletic background after starring in basketball both in high school and for the Ballin’ Ewoks. Leah showed a great competitive spirit for the Ewoks during IM basketball and she will be a key redzone target for 9-point female TDs. ![]() Matt Korte - Matt will be signing in his first year with the Pigskin Hooligans in 2019. He brings intramural flag football experience to the team after playing several years for the storied Wamp Rats franchise. Matt showed a powerful arm at quarterback for the Wamp Rats, lofting precise deep passes downfield. He is expected to receive the starting nod at that critical position this year. ![]() RJ Bortle - RJ returns for his 2nd year as a member of the Hooligans in 2019. He brings an athletic background as he is currently in his senior year with CUAA baseball. RJ showed versatility at multiple positions last year, hauling in 2 TDs as a receiver and passing for 5 TDs at QB. He will likely make an impact in multiple areas this year. RJ had this to say on returning: “Looking to have another good year!” ![]() Ryan Bailey - Ryan will be making his first appearance with the Pigskin Hooligans in 2019. He brings an athletic background, recently retiring from a 3-year career with CUAA cross country and track and field. Ryan specialized in running and endurance throughout his athletic career, and that will transfer well to the flag football field. Remember, the Hooligans will be in action this Sunday, October 20 at 3:30pm against the White Choppas in Cardinal Stadium (following the conclusion of the CUAA reserve game). Come on out and cheer on the team...ROLL HOOLIGANS! Flag football season is right around the corner and the Hooligans are expected to be in action this Saturday, October 20!
