Tue, Nov. 16 - The Pigskin Hooligans have often received criticism this season for winning games with a 7-on-5 advantage over the other team. They silenced those critics today, however, with a 23-19 victory over the Gamecocks which was 7-on-7 for the entire contest. The Hooligans started the game on offense, and new signee Jeni Bollenbacher made an immediate impact with a TD catch for 9 points. After the failed conversion try the Gamecocks marched quickly down the field and Zach Paustian ran in for the score to make it a 9-6 game. After playing solid defense and forcing a punt on the next possession the Gamecocks again moved the ball down the field; this time Justin Litzner caught a TD to give them a 12-9 lead. The Hooligans had an answer, however, as the dependable Josh Ulm caught a TD pass to give the team a 16-12 lead at the half.
Due to the rainy weather and darkness the teams elected to skip halftime. The Gamecocks started on offense and looked to be headed to the endzone yet again. However, Zach Milner intercepted a pass in the endzone and nearly returned it the length of the field to give the Hooligans momentum and good field position. The Hooligans made the Gamecocks pay as Zach Johnston scrambled from the QB position and ran into the endzone to push the lead to 23-12. The Gamecocks would score once more on the day but the Hooligans were able to run out the clock on their next offensive series and came away with a big victory. Jeni Bollenbacher added a 1-pt conversion to go with her TD on the day. Captain Mike Russell played several offensive series and served primarily in a coaching capacity. Max Joseph and Ryan Noack had several key receptions and aided the Hooligans on defense. Thuy Phan continued to show a knack for flag-grabbing with several on the day. The Hooligans improve to 5-3 on the season and currently hold the #2 spot outright. They will finish their grueling stretch of 4 games in a row tomorrow (Wednesday) at 4pm against Jesse Caddell's Ragin' Cajun Hot Stixxx. The last time the two teams met, the Hooligans came away with a 43-18 victory. ROLL HOOLIGANS!
