Wed, Nov. 17 - The Hooligans lost a heartbreaker against a much improved Ragin' Cajun Hot Stixxx team to round out their 4-game stand, falling by a score of 29-23. The Hot Stixxx began the game on offense and quickly moved down the field, scoring a TD and 2pt conversion to go up 8-0. The Hooligans had an answer as they scored on their next offensive series and trailed 8-6. The Hot Stixxx again drove down the field led by experienced new signee Erik Schultz at the QB position, and they jumped out to a 16-6 lead after another score. The Hooligans kept the game close, however, as Josh Ulm hauled in a TD before the half ended to close the lead to 16-13.
In the second half, the Hot Stixxx struck yet again to stretch the lead to 22-13. With time ticking away in the second half the Hooligans needed to close the gap, and Michelle Baumgardner responded in a big way by catching her 2nd TD of the year to knot the game at 22-22. On the 1-pt conversion try the pass from Ryan Noack was tipped, almost intercepted, and finally caught by Zach Johnston to give the Hooligans a huge 23-22 lead with under 2 minutes to go. The Hot Stixxx took the ball with 1:47 to go in the game and moved methodically down the field. Some pressure by Zach Johnston on Erik Schultz forced him to get rid of the ball quickly, but with 19 seconds to go the Hot Stixxx had a 4th-and-goal near the endzone and called a timeout. Johnston blitzed again but Schultz found Jesse Caddell for the clutch TD reception. With 15 seconds to go the Hooligans tried for a deep pass and Erik Schultz was there for the interception to seal the victory. Ryan Noack and Zach Johnston split reps at QB for the game. Thuy Phan caught a 1-pt conversion on the Josh Ulm touchdown. Captain Mike Russell drew a flag-guarding penalty on Erik Schultz to prevent a touchdown. Zach Milner continued to provide a speedy threat and forced the Hot Stixxx to respect the run-fake option. Steve Lestock played solid defense for the Hooligans. Ali Diallo had several receptions on the day. The loss drops the team to 5-4 on the season. The standings are anything but settled as a number of teams are in a battle for the 2nd-place spot, and Hooligans fans may find themselves having to cheer for rival Pebble Creek Punishers to help them improve their positioning. The Hooligans will now have a long layoff over Thanksgiving break and will return to action on Mon, Nov. 29th against the Phlaming Belly Buttons at 5pm. ROLL HOOLIGANS!
