The final look at this past season comes with the announcement of the 2019 Hooligan Awards. Congratulations to the winners (all interceptions listed in the stats are on defense): Harry Kinney wins the Team MVP award after his standout rookie year with the Hooligans in 2019. The freshman quarterback broke the legendary Zach Johnston’s single-game pass TD record with 11 and tied his single-season record with 33 on the year. Harry also showed the ability to scramble out of the pocket with 2 rush TDs and 2 PATs while making an impact on defense with two interceptions. Harry also receives the team’s Breakout Player of the Year Award, given to the team’s most outstanding newcomer. Hunter Lastacy wins the Individual Performance of the Year Award in 2019. He receives the honor after breaking the franchise single-game record with 6 touchdowns in the team’s season-opening 72-48 win over the White Choppas. Hunter also added 2 defensive interceptions in the game as well. Hunter also receives the Most Improved Player award after quintupling his touchdown production from the 2018 season. Kimmy receives this year’s Brittany Davis Memorial Award, given to the team’s most outstanding female player. She was a critical part of the team’s playoff push, playing two complete games in the semifinals and finals. Kimmy caught a touchdown and a PAT on offense while blitzing the quarterback well and coming up with a sack on defense. Louis receives this year’s Defensive Player of the Year Award for the 2019 season. He made an impact with his blazing speed honed as both a cross country and track/field athlete for CUAA. Louis was a key factor on defense with his blitzes on the quarterback, hurrying a number of passes and forcing some bad throws that led to turnovers on downs. Mikey receives the Sub of the Year Award for his efforts in 2019. He was a key signing for the team’s playoff run, appearing in both the team’s semifinal victory and championship loss. Mikey showed good speed and solid hands with a total of 5 touchdowns and 2 PATs in the playoffs. Blake receives the Heart of the Hooligans award this year, given to a player who exemplifies the spirit of the team and/or sustains an injury during the year. While he was present for every game this season, Blake was unable to play in the championship game after spraining his finger in the team’s semifinal victory over the White Choppas. Finally, here are the top three plays of the 2019 season: Gold Play - Harry Kinney’s rush for a touchdown, 57-63 loss to #1 Black Slicers in the championship game - While Harry made a name for himself with his passing touchdowns this year, it was a play with his legs that earns him the year’s Gold Play. With the Hooligans starting around their own 10-yard line, he eluded a blitz and took off running. Harry made multiple jukes and ran down the left sideline for a touchdown, giving the team a 40-36 lead in the second half. Silver Play - Blake Dean’s interception, 82-61 win over #3 White Choppas in the playoffs - The Hooligans found themselves locked in a close game with the White Choppas in their semifinal playoff matchup. Trailing 16-14 early in the contest, Choppas quarterback Ethan Vosburg fired a deep pass to the endzone. After multiple deflections, Blake was able to come up with the ball and secure the interception to force a key turnover. Bronze Play - Kordell McNeal’s forced fumble leading to a Josh Course touchdown, 76-42 win over The Football Team - After trailing 12-0 early in the game, the Hooligans began to make a comeback behind a defensive surge. Kordell has shown the ability to force fumbles in the past, and after a short pass was caught by The Football Team he was able to swipe the ball loose. The fumble was scooped up by Josh Course and returned to the endzone for a touchdown. Congratulations to all of the 2019 Hooligan Award recipients! This concludes our coverage of the 2019 season. Be sure to check back in 2020 to follow the next championship drive. Until then...ROLL HOOLIGANS!
