Sun, Nov 2 - The Hooligans had a short turnaround after their first game as they went on to play the second match of their doubleheader against Evan Novak's Bottom of the 5th squad. The team looked to have an advantage as due to the absence of a girl Bottom of the 5th was forced to play with just 5 guys on the field. But despite a 2-player advantage, the Hooligans continued to be plagued by turnovers and defensive struggles as Bottom of the 5th pulled away in the second half to win 74-42. Co-captain Angela Martin won the opening coin toss for the Hooligans and selected offense first. Marshall Oetting would steadily drive the Hooligans down the field and Humphrey Ihejirikah would dive into the endzone for the team's first score of the day. Bottom of the 5th would answer on their opening drive as Jeremy Maas made a long run from the quarterback position to tie the game up 8-8. Zeb Hancock would come up with a pick 6 on the next series to give Bottom of the 5th their first lead of the game, and the Hooligans answered as Marshall Oetting connected with Lukas Mueller for a quick touchdown strike. Bottom of the 5th would expand their lead as Jeremy Maas found his brother Jacob Maas for a touchdown, and after an Evan Novak interception Zeb Hancock turned a short pass into a long TD run. With the team down 30-14 the Hooligans made a quarterback switch to Micah Oetting, and he would eventually find Dana Ford in the endzone for a critical 9-point female score. Micah would find brother Marshall Oetting in the endzone for the 2-pt PAT as time expired, and the Hooligans would trail 30-25 at halftime. Bottom of the 5th got the ball to start the second half, and their offense would continue to be unstoppable as Jeremy Maas would find Evan Novak to make the score 36-25. The Hooligans would make the game interesting, though, as Dana Ford came up huge with another touchdown and a Marshall Oetting 2-pt PAT catch would tie the game up at 36-36. Jeremy Maas would answer for his team as he made a sensational run from the QB position with a quick spin move to elude defenders on his way to the endzone. Micah Oetting would drive the team down the field and find his brother Marshall Oetting in the endzone to respond, although Jeremy Maas intercepted the PAT attempt and returned it for 2. Jeremy Maas would find Zeb Hancock for another touchdown and Jacob Maas made a pick 6 on the next series to make the score 60-42. The game really became out of reach for the Hooligans when Evan Novak returned an interception for a touchdown, adding a PAT catch as well to make it 68-42. The Hooligans began to rotate quarterbacks at the end of the game with Humphrey Ihejirikah, Dana Ford, and Angela Martin seeing some reps at the position. After a turnover on downs Alex Sypniewski would connect with Jacob Maas for one last touchdown. The Hooligans would attempt a wild lateral play at the end of the game involving Micah Oetting, Marshall Oetting, Lukas Mueller and Patrick Brooks, but despite Brooks ending up in the endzone the officials declared that the play was dead and the touchdown no good. The final score would read 74-42 in favor of Bottom of the 5th. For the Hooligans, Marshall Oetting had a receiving TD, 2 passing TDs, and 2 PATs. Dana Ford kept her team in the game with 2 TDs along with some great flag grabs. Micah Oetting passed for 3 touchdowns in the game. Humphrey Ihejirikah caught the opening touchdown and continued to be an extremely dependable receiver possibly leading the team in receptions. Lukas Mueller had a first-half touchdown and continued to show good hands catching everything thrown to him. New signee Patrick Brooks had a PAT early in the game and made some key receptions. Angela Martin showed her speed turning some short passes into long gains for the team. Captain Mike Russell saw some time at center in the game and also served in a coaching capacity. For Bottom of the 5th, Jeremy Maas paced his team with 4 passing TDs, 2 rushing TDs, a PAT interception returned for 2, and a PAT run. Jacob Maas had 2 receiving TDs, a pick 6, and 2 PATs. Zeb Hancock showed his speed to make some long gains with 2 receiving TDs and an INT return for TD. Captain Evan Novak had a receiving TD, 2 INTs including one for a pick 6, and a PAT. Alex Sypniewski had a late passing TD and 2 PATs. Jake Gholston and Nae Smith were at the second game as well to cheer on the Hooligans. The game was officiated by Herman Mason and Virgilio Burgo. The Hooligans drop to 0-2 on the season after the defeat. They will look to bounce back and hopefully get several missing players back from illness when they play this Sunday, Nov 9 at 3:30pm in a rematch against Bottom of the 5th.
