With the season just around the corner and the 2012 Pigskin Hooligan squad assembled, lets take a look at the team for this upcoming season: Mike Russell (captain), grad student (MBA 1st yr), 7th yr Hooligan - Captain Mike Russell returns to the helm of the Hooligans for his 7th year with the team and 6th as captain. He has continued to add to his legacy over the years, notching his first career postseason TD in the championship game last season. Mike will be sporting a brand new jersey this year, seen in his picture, which he received as a gift from his teammates last year. He had this to say about returning to the Hooligans: "I am proud to lead this great franchise on another championship run. It will be great to finally get to wear the jersey this year and I hope to do everything I can to lead us to our first title in franchise history!" Zach Johnston, staff, 4th yr Hooligan - Zach comes back to the Hooligans for his 4th season. Hooligan fans waited with baited breath all summer on his status during the offseason, but luckily Concordia hired him as a full-time staff member making him eligible to play. Zach has won the team's MVP award the last 2 seasons for his stalwart play both at the QB position and as a leader on defense. His quickness and agility make him a key part of the team every year and he will continue to be counted on to make clutch plays. Zach had this to say about returning to the Hooligans: "It's good to be back." Zach Milner, junior, 3rd yr Hooligan - Zach comes back to the Hooligans for his 3rd season. He won the team's Most Improved Player award last year as well as earning the Silver Play of the Year for his game-tying TD catch against Falcons N' Stuff. Zach's agility has consistently made him in asset to the team on both sides of the ball and will be counted on again this year to shut down some of the opposition's fastest players. Zach had this to say about re-signing with the Hooligans: "Happy to be back and cannot wait to bring this team some wins!" Ethan Anderson, junior, 2nd yr Hooligan - Ethan returns to the team for his 2nd season. He is a linebacker on Concordia's football team, making him one of the two allowed "pro players", and he also competes in track and field. Ethan won the team's Defensive Player of the Year award last year for his solid play. He also showed good hands offensively, notching 3 TDs and showing a wide array of spin moves. Ethan will anchor the defense again this year using his skills honed as an all-State linebacker in high school. Dorian Lancaster, sophomore, 1st yr Hooligan - Dorian will be making his Pigskin Hooligan debut in 2012. He was briefly on Concordia's football team as a running back, making him the Hooligans' 2nd allowed "pro player". Dorian has also competed in track and field for Concordia and he still owns the school record in the long jump set back in 2010 (21 feet, 3.5 inches). He will provide speed for the team which will be an asset on both sides of the ball. Dorian had this to say about joining the Hooligans: "I'm very happy to be a part of this team and to play with my ex-suite mate Tom Sperry and the rest of the team. We guaranteein' a championship!". Justin Litzner, senior, 1st yr Hooligan - Justin joins the Hooligans for his first year on the team. He brings solid athleticism as a 4-year member of Concordia's baseball team. Justin is no stranger to the flag football field, having won two championships including one last season with Dream Team Plus Krysiak over the Hooligans. He will be a solid contributor and both sides of the ball and will likely have a solid rapport with former baseball teammate Zach Johnston. Tom Sperry, senior, 1st yr Hooligan - Sperry will be a newcomer to the Hooligans in 2012. He also brings solid athleticism to the team as a 4-year member of Concordia's baseball team. Sperry has faced the Hooligans for the past 3 years going all the way back to 2009, but he joins up with them this year in pursuit of a championship. His speed will help on both offense and defense, and he will also have a good connection with former baseball teammate Zach Johnston. Angela Martin, sophomore, 2nd yr Hooligan - Angela comes back to the Hooligans after helping to collect a forfeit victory last season. She is a member of Concordia's softball team, recently finishing a standout freshman year seeing time primarily in the infield. Angela was recently recorded as having the fastest time around the bases on this year's softball team. Her speed and powderpuff background will be key assets to the team this season. Breannea King, senior (5th yr), 2nd yr Hooligan - Breannea returns to the Hooligans for her second season. She won the team's Brittany Davis Memorial Award last season after leading the team with 6 TDs and tying Brittany Davis' old record. Breannea won't be as much of a "secret weapon" this year as teams will likely gameplan for her pass-catching ability in the endzone. Her athletic background as a 4-year member of Concordia's softball team will continue to help the Hooligans. Kristina Butcher, senior, 1st yr Hooligan - Kristina rounds out this year's Hooligans team as a newcomer. She is going into her second year on Concordia's softball team after recording a solid season at first base. Kristina brings a football background to the Hooligans, having played against boys in both elementary school and a flag football league growing up. Her 5' 9" height will likely make her a key target for TD passes in the endzone. Angela Martin and Kristina Butcher issued a joint signing quote: "Ever since we were little kids we felt it was our destiny to be a Pigskin Hooligan. Playing with Coach Zach is an honor, to say the least. Coach Zach had this to say about us: 'Ange and AZ are great athletes with great character on and off the field, it's an honor to play side by side next to them. With them on the team it's a given to win the title'". The Pigskin Hooligans are very happy with this year's 2012 squad! A championship is certainly a realistic goal as the Hooligans will once again be among the league's elite. There is also currently an open spot on the Hooligans' roster as 2-time All-Star Josh Ulm chose to make his own team this year to get the league to 4 teams. Both sides are disappointed at the need for a split but the Hooligans are happy for Josh's selfless act for the good of the league so the season can get rolling. The schedule is still uncertain but we will keep you updated as we receive information...ROLL HOOLIGANS!
