Tue, Dec 3 - The Pigskin Hooligans clinched a spot in the championship game for the 4th time in the last 5 years, scoring a franchise record 93 points in a crazy 93-80 win over a short-manned Pederson Painters squad. The Painters put forth a valiant effort despite only having 4 players, and their soccer cleats enabled them to avoid slipping in the mud that plagued the Hooligans all day. But in the end the Hooligans' girls would once again provide the margin of victory with seven 9-point touchdowns in the offensive shootout. The Painters originally began with three players, and the Hooligans chose offense first to exploit the defensive mismatch. Zach Johnston started the game out well, firing a deep pass to Justin Litzner to give the Hooligans an early lead. But the Painters would immediately counter as James Kapanka hooked up on a deep pass with Jay Krause to answer. The Hooligans drove down the field again as Justin Litzner made a long run and selflessly lateraled to Bre Taylor for the 9-pt score for a 17-6 lead. However, the Painters would string together three straight scores as James Kapanka found Jon Pederson for a touchdown, Mikey Erickson came up with a pick 6, and after a fumble on a lateral attempt Mikey Erickson would catch a TD pass to open up a surprising 28-17 lead. The Hooligans refocused on their next trip down the field as Zach Johnston connected with Bre Taylor on a nice slant pattern with Jessie Barns catching the game-tying PAT. The teams traded scores at the end of the half as James Kapanka hooked up with Mikey Erickson yet again while Zach Johnston found Justin Litzner who made a nice juggling catch as time expired. The score would read 34-34 going into halftime. The Painters began the second half with the ball, and James Kapanka led his team down the field finding Jay Krause to reclaim the lead 42-34. The Hooligans answered as Bre Taylor made a great TD catch with a defender all over her. It looked like the game would turn into a battle of who had the ball last, but Jessie Barns came up with a huge fumble recovery to set up a Valerie Carrillo TD to give the Hooligans some separation. The Painters still would not go away as Jon Pederson caught a TD pass and 2-pt PAT, but Zach Johnston fired another TD pass to Valerie Carrillo who made a nice catch towards the back corner of the endzone. James Kapanka took off and ran from the QB position for a TD on the next series, and a 3-pt PAT catch by Jon Pederson would keep things close at 67-59. But the Hooligans began to pull away with their girls as Bre Taylor caught a franchise record-tying 4th TD on the next drive to make it 78-59. The teams continued to trade scores as Jon Pederson caught another TD, but Karlee Schaus broke a huge gain on the defense setting up another Valerie Carrillo TD catch. James Kapanka found Jay Krause for a score on the next drive, and the Hooligans countered as Justin Litzner scored his 3rd TD of the game. On the final drive James Kapanka connected with Jay Krause for the 4th time in the game, but Justin Litzner would intercept the PAT. The final score would read 93-80 in favor of the Hooligans. For the Hooligans, Zach Johnston tied his own single-game Hooligan record with 9 passing TDs in the game and was also a huge factor on defense. Bre Taylor also had a career day, notching 4 TDs which tied Angela Martin's single-game record along with 2 PATs. Justin Litzner was all over the field with 3 TDs, 2 PATs and an interception. Valerie Carrillo showed good hands catching 3 TD passes and had 2 solid pass breakups on PATs. Jessie Barns had a crucial fumble recovery in the second half and also had 2 PATs. Karlee Schaus broke a huge gain in the second half and played good defense. Captain Mike Russell had one catch for a first down, after which he pointed LeVeon Bell-style to let everyone know. For the Painters, James Kapanka threw for 9 TDs and rushed for one. Jay Krause had 4 receiving TDs in the game along with a PAT. Captain Jon Pederson used his height advantage to record 3 TDs and 3 PATs in the game. Mikey Erickson had 2 receiving TDs, 1 pick 6, and 2 PATs. Corrina Rotondo and Kortney Loar were at the field for a little bit to cheer on the team. The Hooligans move to 3-1 on the year and will now await the winner of the #1 BDB vs #4 Monsters Inc matchup. That game will be played on Friday at 4:00. The championship game time has yet to be officially determined, but will likely be Sunday at 4:00.
