Students are returning from fall break at Concordia University Ann Arbor, and it will soon be time for the Pigskin Hooligans franchise to make one more shot at winning another championship. The franchise will be entering its 11th year of competition this season and looks to add to the legacy which has been built over the years.
Last year the Hooligans finished 2-2 on the season, returning to the championship game but failing to defend their 2014 title. The team set a new franchise record for largest margin of victory in their 89-35 season-opening win against the Wamp Rats but fell 71-46 to We Love TDs to end the regular season 1-1. The Hooligans would earn the #2 seed in the playoffs and cruise to a 61-38 first-round victory over #3 seed Wamp Rats, but they were crushed 70-23 in the championship game by #1 seed We Love TDs. It is worth noting that many key players were missing from the championship game and their presence was sorely missed. This year’s squad will once again feature a mix of a solid core of returning veteran players along with some key newcomers. Captain Mike Russell continues to work hard every offseason to recruit and retain the top talent Hooligans fans have come to expect. We originally believed the athletic department was going to return flag football as an intramural sport this year, but it appears that is not the case. Captain Russell is working hard to coordinate a league as he did last year to ensure that flag football will still be played in 2016. Check back soon for a roster preview to take a closer look at the 2016 squad...ROLL HOOLIGANS!
