We apologize for the long delay, but the Pigskin Hooligans are proud to announce the award winners from the 2013 Pigskin Hooligans season: 2013 Most Valuable Player Award Winner - Zach Johnston: For the fourth consecutive year Zach takes home the MVP award for the Hooligans. He was lured out of retirement this season and proved he can still dominate the league, tossing a league-leading 28 TD passes on the year. Zach was a crucial part of the Hooligans on offense, and he was equally valuable on defense notching 3 interceptions and serving as a vocal team leader. 2013 Brittany Davis Memorial Award Winner - Bre Taylor: Bre wins the Brittany Davis Memorial Award for 2013, given to the team's most outstanding female player. She had a sensational year for the team in 2013, leading the league with 13 touchdowns. Bre showed great hands all year and tied the Hooligans franchise record for touchdowns in a single game twice with a pair of 4-TD games. She was solid on defense as well notching an interception. 2013 Breakout Player of the Year Award Winner - Bre Taylor: Bre also wins the Breakout Player of the Year Award for her efforts in 2013. The award is given to the most outstanding newcomer to the team. 2013 Defensive Player of the Year Award Winner - Zach Johnston: While Zach usually gets recognized for his offensive contributions as the Hooligans' quarterback, this year he is also recognized for his defense. He led the team in interceptions with 3 on the year, including 2 in the team's crucial 56-52 win over the Pederson Painters that secured a playoff spot. Zach was great all year at chasing down defenders and calling out defensive assignments. 2013 Individual Performance of the Year Award Winner - Justin Litzner: Justin receives the 2013 award for best individual game performance for his play in the team's 93-80 playoff win against the Pederson Painters. On the stat sheet his numbers were impressive with 3 receiving TDs, 2 PATs, and an interception. But what did not show up on the stat sheet was that Justin selflessly lateraled to Bre Taylor for a female TD and later in the game stopped at the 1-yd line to set up another female 9-pt score. Including those plays he accounted for 5 total TDs, and he also had many other receptions and flag grabs in the match as well. 2013 Most Improved Player Award Winner - Dana Ford: Dana receives the 2013 award for the most improved player compared to the last season. In 2012 she played in one game for the Hooligans, notching a few receptions in the team's regular season victory over the Big Boyz. But in 2013 Dana really took her game to the next level, notching 2 TDs and a PAT along with several other receptions. She also made in impact on defense with a couple sacks and some good flag grabs. 2013 Sub of the Year Award Winner - Jessie Barns: Jessie wins the 2013 sub of the year award as he was a tremendous mid-season acquisition for the team. He notched 2 TDs and 4 PATs in his time with the Hooligans, showing his great footwork and speed honed as a former running back for CUAA's football team. Jessie had a ton of receptions throughout the year to move the team down the field, and he also contributed on defense with many flag grabs and a fumble recovery. 2013 Heart of the Hooligans Award Winner - Angela Martin: Angela wins the second annual Heart of the Hooligans award, given to the player that best exemplifies the spirit of the Hooligans. It is often given to players who sustain an injury, and she fits the bill as she sustained a finger injury late in the season that kept her out for the playoffs. Angela notched 3 touchdowns prior to the injury, and she was a key part of the team both on the field and off as a co-captain. She needs only 4 more touchdowns next year to pass the legendary Josh Ulm for the Hooligans' career touchdown mark. Finally, here are this year's award winners for the top 3 individual plays of the season: Gold Play: Takari Johnson's game-clinching TD catch, 11/20/13 vs Pederson Painters - The Hooligans held a 50-44 lead late in a critical game against the Pederson Painters to secure a playoff spot. The team could not run out the clock entirely, so they looked to a score a touchdown to put the game practically out of reach. The Hooligans were facing a 4th down situation just outside the Painters' endzone, and Takari came in clutch showing good hands to haul in a short TD pass to secure the victory. Silver Play: Justin Litzner's go-ahead 2pt PAT catch, championship game vs BDB - The 2013 championship game between the Hooligans and BDB was an exciting match, featuring several lead changes. With the Hooligans down by 10 points late in the game, a Bre Taylor touchdown put them down 1 point as they went for the PAT. The team went for 2 to take the lead, and Justin made a sensational diving catch to put the team up 57-56 with 1:30 to go. While the Hooligans did eventually give up a late game-winning score, Justin gave them a great chance to win the game with that catch. Bronze Play: Karlee Schaus's finger-tip TD catch, championship game vs BDB - The Hooligans found themselves in an early 12-0 deficit in the championship game after giving up two early touchdowns. After two straight empty possessions on offense, the team drove down the field and found themselves just outside BDB's end-zone. Karlee came up with a great finger-tip catch on a low throw to haul in her first touchdown of the season, putting the Hooligans right back in the game. The Pigskin Hooligans are proud of the accomplishments of all the 2013 award winners. This concludes our look at the 2013 season. We will be back in the fall of 2014 to give you full coverage of the team's next championship run. Until then...ROLL HOOLIGANS!
