Now that the Hooligans' roster is set, let's take a look at your 2011 team: Mike Russell (captain), grad student (MBA, 1st yr), 6th yr Hooligan - He's baaaaack. Captain Mike Russell shocked the intramural world by pulling off a Brett Favre-style unretirement in the offseason and returning for an unprecedented 6th year. Captain Russell made great strides in his game last year, taking home the team's Most Improved Player award after scoring his first touchdown and notching a career high in pass receptions. He had this to say about returning to the Hooligans: "I am extremely happy things worked out for me to return to lead the team this year. I think we have a lot of potential and a really good chance to take home the title this year!". Zach Johnston, grad student (OLA, 2nd yr), 3rd yr Hooligan - Zach Johnston returns for likely his final season as a Pigskin Hooligan. Zach won the Hooligans' Team MVP award last year for his steady presence both at the quarterback position and on defense. His accuracy as a passer as well as his ability to scramble from the QB position made him a key part of the team's success. His speed and agility on defense was also a big help to the team. Zach had this to say about returning to the Hooligans: "Good to be back!". Josh Ulm, sophomore, 2nd yr Hooligan - Josh Ulm will return to the Hooligans with one year of playing experience under his belt. Josh won the team's Breakout Player of the Year award last year as the most outstanding newcomer to the team. He scored a significant amount if not most of the team's touchdowns and was a highly dependable pass receiver. He will likely be the team's tallest player this year, and will surely be looked to in the redzone as a scoring threat and for picking up critical first downs. Zach Milner, sophomore, 2nd yr Hooligan - Zach Milner is the final returning Hooligan from last year's squad. Zach demonstrated blazing speed for the Hooligans last year, proving to be an asset on both sides of the ball. His presence at running back allowed the team to run play-fakes and force the opposition to respect the possibility of the handoff. Defensively he hustled to grab flags and had a few interceptions as well. Zach will likely continue to take reps at running back and may also see some time at the QB position this year. Ali Miller, senior, 1st yr Hooligan - Ali Miller will be in her first year as a Hooligan and is one of the team's 3 girls. Ali has been a standout player for the last 2 years as an outside hitter on Concordia's volleyball team, and she was recently honored at Senior Night. Her height is measured at 5' 10", and that will make her a threat to score touchdowns of the 9-pt variety as well as a good defender. Ali has a lot of enthusiasm to play for the team and will be able to play following volleyball season. Betty Budd, senior (5th yr), 1st yr Hooligan - Betty Budd will also be a female newcomer to the Pigskin Hooligans. Betty was recruited by Captain Russell all the way back in the spring after he found out she would be back at CUAA for an extra semester. She was a key part of Concordia's women's soccer team for 4 years, playing a variety of positions including defense and goalie. Betty is also taking a hip-hop dance class at WCC with sister and Hooligans fan Alexa Budd, and we fully expect to see her break out some moves in the endzone. Betty had this to say about joining the team: "I am excited to join the team but scared because I've never played football in my life...I can catch and run so hopefully that works for me". Cody Cotner, sophomore, 1st yr Hooligan - Cody Cotner will serve as the first of the Hooligans' 2 allowed players with collegiate football experience. Cody plays wide receiver on Concordia's varsity football team as well as running track, where he holds the school record in the 4x200 relay. In high school he served as team captain while setting school records for most career interceptions and the longest TD reception. Cody will bring a tremendous amount of speed and athleticism to the Hooligans, and he will be a key player on both sides of the football. Upon signing with the Hooligans Cody had this to say: "Just win baby!" Ethan Anderson, sophomore, 1st yr Hooligan - Ethan Anderson will serve as the second of the Hooligans' players with collegiate football experience. Ethan plays offensive line and special teams on Concordia's varsity football team. He brings a defensive background from his high school football days, earning the team's Defensive MVP and Mr. Hustle awards. Ethan was able to play a game for the Frisbee Hooligans this year and showed good hands, speed, and hustle. He will also be counted on along with Cody to bring a "professional" touch to the Hooligans. Eric Koester, junior, 1st yr Hooligan - Eric Koester will be a newcomer to the Pigskin Hooligans this season. Eric expressed interest in joining the team last year to Captain Russell when girlfriend Sarah Mowery was on the team, but his schedule prevented him from being able to play. He played for Zach Milner's Savage team in ultimate frisbee this year and showed great speed downfield. Having been in the Marine Corps Eric will be very physically fit, and his speed and athleticism will be a great help to the team. Mary Kreutzkamp, sophomore, 1st yr Hooligan - Mary Kreutzkamp will be playing her first year for the Hooligans, joining fiance Josh Ulm on the team. Mary was at many Pigskin Hooligans games as a fan last year. She participated in one of the preseason two-hand-touch pickup games and showed ability both catching and throwing the ball. Mary has also been a Frisbee Hooligan for the past two years. The Pigskin Hooligans are happy to have Mary on board for this season! Robert Myers, freshman, 1st yr Hooligan - Robert Myers will be joining the Pigskin Hooligans this year. Robert participated in the Frisbee Hooligans this year and made a huge impact with his speed and tough defense. He will look to translate these skills to the flag football field both as a receiver, possible backup QB, and a safety on defense. Hooligan fans can expect a lot of solid hustle from Robert as he will be a solid addition to the team. We are still unsure when exactly the season will start, but check back frequently to stay updated! ROLL HOOLIGANS!
