The 2009 Pigskin Hooligan campaign was the closest the franchise had ever come to taking home the title. The Hooligans finished the regular season 8-2, claiming the #1 overall seed in the playoffs. The team made it all the way to the championship game but fell in a closely contested match with their rival Kidney Stones, finishing at 9-3. One of the key storylines throughout the season was the baseball practice schedule, as for many games the baseball players could only make part or none of the game. When the entire team was present, though, the Hooligans were a force to be reckoned with.
Zach Johnston, Erik Mendoza, and C.J. Luttinen split the majority of the reps at the QB position throughout the year. Billy Kohls, Ryan Noack, and Zane Johnston from the baseball team were dependable receivers and great assets on defense. Brothers Max Joseph and Bernard Joseph were also key parts of the team, scoring most of the team's touchdowns and playing solid defense. Captain Mike Russell recorded several receptions throughout the year and provided leadership and team management during a hectic schedule. For the girls Brittany Davis led the way with 6 touchdowns on the year, still likely a franchise record, and was 4th on the team with 19 receptions. Kelly Howard and Katie Moro also rotated in during the year and helped the team with pass receptions.
