Nov 10, 2009 - And so the Hooligans had come to the finish line. They had already made history as the most successful team in franchise history, and had a chance to top it off with a championship. However the Kidney Stones would have the last word on the 2009 season, as they won a tight one 47-38. The game time had to be renegotiated between the captains, as the baseball practice schedule would have decimated the Hooligans' roster at the original time. Zach Johnston took most of the QB reps in the game, turning in an impressive 17-22 passing performance for 5 TDs. Max Joseph had another solid offensive performance, catching 7 passes for 3 TDs. For the Kidney Stones Tyler Case took all of the QB reps and was nearly flawless, going 15-16 passing for 5 TDs and recording 2 PATs. Martell Buchanan produced every time he touched the ball, notching 3 receptions for 3 TDs. Late in the game, a controversial strip ball by Martell on Brittany Davis turned the tide in favor of the Kidney Stones. Erik Schultz's performance was also noteworthy, as he had 4 receptions for 2 TDs and 3 PATs.
The team still had much to be proud of during the year. Had Zane Johnston been healthy for the playoffs, or captain Mike Russell there to provide direct leadership, who's to say the Hooligans couldn't have won it all? The team finished 9-3 overall for the season, the first winning season in franchise history. The team was exciting to watch and had speedy weapons on both offense and defense. And yet the players and Hooligan Nation overall were still left with a feeling of unfinished business, that "the dream" was still out there to be pursued by future Hooligans... Stats: Hooligans Bernard Joseph - 5 receptions, 1 TD, 1 PAT Billy Kohls - 4 receptions, 1 TD Brittany Davis - 1 reception C.J.
